|
|
I just got my new shifter and put it in about a week ago. I love it. Nice and smooth. Short throw, and solid. Way better than the Drag-Ass by Scat that needed customization just to make it work. Also better than my Hurst knock off from Latest Rage...although once beefed up with a couple minor spot welds it was not bad for a $35.00 unit. The Bugpack Shift Right was about $130.00 and worth the extra $30.00. Made in the USA too. |

If you want to keep your shifter and save some bucks, here's a way to fix it.

I can't understand this hate for the drag fast. I have one, it's fine, no issues, no mods. For me, it works fine. _________________ '67 Sunroof

Me too, I have ran one for 20+ years and not one problem. A few friends have them also without any issues.

It looks like the one I just installed from Aircooled.net. Nice piece of work. _________________ 74 Ghia, with 2110 engine |

I don't know man, but i've read several folks say they don't work well... they've always been easy to install and worked flawlessly for me... _________________

I've had drag fast in my Baja for closed to 20 years and several other cars (and a bus one in my 61 panel) and they have been great. The only issues I ever had was in my Baja when I put in one of those cheap urethane shift couplers, it didn't line up and I don't think any shifter would have worked well with it. Put in a stock coupler and back to smooth accurate shifts. I also have a couple of the locking Gene Berg shifters which are very nice, but pricey.

I have 2 you can have Eric. I pulled them out my 67 and my ragtop because they both missed 1st to 2nd shifts all the time. It's no fun slamming 2nd gear and having it go in reverse without pulling the lockout. _________________ John Bates

i have run the scat shifers for years. some do have a problem, but there is no need to weld or drill anything in the shifter. just sometimes you gotta shim it. easy, cheap. _________________ "i got a friend that knows a guy who's best friend has an uncle that used to have a bug just like yours!"

I had lousy experiences with SCAT shifters...
Here's what I have to say about the SCAT Drag "Miss Shift" shifters:
I've been using my Gene Berg shifter since I bought it new in 1994.
Before I bought the Berg, I went thru (4) SCAT Drag Fast shifters in 6 years, that was about $50-70 per shifter.
The problem I had with the SCAT shifters was the stupid rivets loosened up and was causing me to miss shifts (sloppy shifting) and many times it goes into REVERSE when I speed shifted from 1st to 2nd. I even tried to tighten the rivets up, but no dice.
That's when I decided to get an 11" curved Berg Shifter w/ 60% throw after going thru those (4) SCAT Drag "Miss Shift" shifters even with new shift rod bushings. _________________ Jim Kikuchi

I guess the question is, why would you buy three more after having trouble with the first one?? To each his own, I'm not having an issue with it. _________________ '67 Sunroof
