I just acquired a spare wheel tool kit. I think it's the later style, without the T-wrench, but I'm not sure.
Can someone who knows post pics of the different styles of round tool kits with info on when they were made.
It would also be very useful to see close-up pics of each of the tools in the respective kits. My set is missing a pair of pliers and two wrenches and I want to know what to look for. _________________ fig

Thanks for the link iowegian, very useful. Now I know which tools are missing. The hunt begins!
Snoop Bob, I'll post pics later. I didn't think anyone would want to see pics of my incomplete toolbox after all the beautiful NOS tools on this thread.
Is there any kind of thread or forum for people who want to trade Hazet tools? _________________ fig

Here's the round tool box I just got:
From the 356 site I'm missing the pliers, a 7x9 open ended wrench and a 13 combination wrench. The 14 combination wrench in the kit has been ground very thin for some PO purpose.
I must share how I found this:
A few months ago I acquired several VW factory workshop manuals and parts lists for my collection. Along with the VW books were a two-volume factory workshop manual and two parts lists for the old 1969> Audi 100 L, LS, GL range. I had no use for them but I knew that to the right person they'd be priceless so, rather than tossing them, I set about finding someone who could use them.
After some web searching I couldn't find any kind of classic Audi club or discussion forum or webpage in South Africa, but a search of an A3/A4 go faster discussion forum turned up a single post by a guy looking for parts for an early 70s Audi coupe. His email address was in his profile so I mailed him and asked him if the Audi manuls would be any use to him. I got no reply.
Until several months later, when he called me a few weeks ago to ask if I still had the manuals. I offered them to him for a token amount and he came and fetched them from me the next day. Of course, he noticed the buses in my yard and we got talking about his old cars (Audi Coupe, NSU RO80, DKW 1000S) and he mentioned that he used to have a Beetle and that he still had "one of those old round toolboxes" lying around at home.
I immediately made him an offer for it and he was surprised it could be worth so much. He didn't say whether he'd sell it and left. Then a week later he sent me a photograph of it. Still didn't say whether he was selling it, but I replied saying if he ever did decide to sell it I would be interested in buying it. Some time later he came back to me and said he hadn't planned to sell it but had decided to pass it on to someone who could use it, and that he'd done some googling on the value and he thought my offer was fair and we did a deal. _________________ fig

Nice fig, thanks for the pics. No real traders thread or forum that I know of but someone else might. Usually someone just pops up a wanted or trade ad in the classifieds. _________________

Fig, I dont care about your Round Tool Box. I have seen a similar idea of it that fits under the hub-cap that I would imagine you would use for the spare-wheel most Bays have fixed to the front of their Kombi - but then anyone could steel it....?.). So that round tool kit goes inside the wheel rim behind your front seat in a splitty?
Check your PMs. |

Can anyone provide any information on the feeler gauge which fits in the lower tray on the "square" '70s tool kit? From the photos and the blank space on the plastic tray, it appears to be a single blade, measuring approx 155mm x 11mm, with a metal ring in one end. I can't find a Hazet part number. Are these still available? _________________ Driving in the slow lane since 1969. |

I haven't seen this site mentioned in any of the info on Hazet sites in the forums. But ran across it the other day. Has links to all of the current Hazet tools with prices plus a great link to a PDF file Hazet catalog. Thought it might be of interest.

Very nice kit. The wrenches and pliers shouldn't be too hard to find and you can always use some generic pieces to fill in until the correct ones turn up.
It is most fortunate that the screw drivers are there (in perfect condition, at that) as those are usually the first to leave the kit and are, therefore, very expensive. Congratulations. |

Well it is not a "tool" in the literal sense of the word but I have been told this was made by Hazet back in the 1960's.. thoughts??

This is a small puller that came with the Hazet battery service kit. It is used to pull the battery cable clamp from the terminal.

When did the "2" prefix supercede Hazet 513?

The "25" started in 1956, 1957 or 1958. I have a 1958 catalog with the "25" numbering system and a 1955 without. |

Found this and a few other peices at the Lakeland VW show this weekend. Hazet 2597 (all caps) 17mm both ends
at first I thought it seemed to me it might be a tool for removing the engine bolt behind the oil cooler. Now I'm leaning toward just a line wrench for the hose end that connects to the metal lines. Probably makes more sense.

| Any opinions on the current market for Round Boxes and tools? Has the bottom fallen out compared to a couple of years ago? Dropped 25% or more? Or does everybody that wants one have one? |

I sold a complete late fifties kit last year for $550. Mine was as complete as this one http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=806000 but the case was not as nice. |
