I have seen in my westy manual that some (or maybe thay all had it) had a drain pipe that went to the other side under the van so it wouldn't drain on your feet. This pipe is not under any of my westy's ( I have 10) I can see that a pipe like that would get riped off pretty eazy.

Yep, I'm not sure if all the RH sink models had it but my 72 does, it screws on to the threaded bottom of the drain and runs across beneath the bus to the left.

This always cracks me up. Westy's certified to meet California housing standards for plumbing and electrical. So we end up having a totally useless vent pipe going thru the roof. It's not as if our sinks produce vapors that need to be vented to the outside like home systems with toilets and whatever. But the funniest part is that it was perfectly OK to dump the drain water directly on the ground. With Cali's and Arnie's expanding enviormental laws about the only thing legal to hit the ground is fresh rain water. If possible, that would be outlawed as wasting a valuable natural resource.
In the meantime while standing next to, and using the sink, the drain dumps on your shoes. I'm planning on connecting a simple hose to the down pipe to route the drain away from the bus. In the desert rattlesnakes and other critters look for moisture in the night. Stepping out the slider first thing in the morning onto a rattlesnake is not the way to start a day. Been there, done that.

Regardless of where it drains... through a pipe to the driver's side, on your feet, or on a snake's head... the sink's evacuation is frequently assisted by having a 'roof' vent. Kali authorities may have figured (correctly) that some Westy owners would actually mount a grey water tank underneath the floor, and then the vent would be even more appreciated. It does seem like Westfalia could have come up with a less obtrusive way of venting the sink drain. (And, Yeah, we do a horrible job of managing/utilizing rain runoff here in SoCal.)

Side note: in the 1980s, one of VW's Euro 'specialty' vehicles was the 'Vanagon office', featuring conference seating around a table, and a restroom with sink & a flush toilet. Although it wasn't marketed in the U.S., you can bet its black water and grey water drains/holding tanks were nicely vented, too.

First thanks for all the help and pics. After three trips to Home Depot and multiple exchanges Im done . I moved sink to behind drivers seat , opening door space. I will drill a one inch hole thru floor where the sink and ice box will drain..... Pics to follow I hope. Its amazing how much easier it is to get in and out of bus without a cabinet that size in your way..Mounted spice rack on rear of passenger bulk head... Thanks Joe
