|
|
Hi all,
been reading through the shipping posts but most seem to refer to shipping vehicles only. Does anyone have experience of shipping a vanagon westy roof across from California to the UK or other large parts?
really dont know anything about shipping but trying to get up to speed - any tips or advice on where to look would be greatly appreciated
thanks,

Well as most vehicles are shipped in shared containers I would think the normal shippers would be able to arrange shipment where room exists.
Very rarely do containers contain just one vehicle...it's simply not cost effective.
Where are you shipping from in California? _________________ John.

Hi John,
thanks for the reply. Shipping is something i know nothing about! the roof is n Berkeley, near San Francisco. I called a couple of shippers mentioned in this section of the forum but they deal with cars only.
do you know of any general shipping companies? Any advice/help greatly appreciated!

I got my Ghia from Berkeley and it shipped from Oakland in a shared container. I don't know who you've tried already but Aladdin Freight have a very good reputation and I too have nothing but good words for them.
Shipping: Aladdin Freight, contact Kristine Highsmith
email: [email protected]
Telephone: 001 510 533 0400 ext 12
If you're phoning that is the direct dial number...phone about 5 in the afternoon UK time. _________________ John.

Hey Sam,
I've delt with Kristine before and she is pretty helpful so you shouldn't have too many problem.
If you do try Kingtown shipping this side of the pond as they're deal with a few companies in Cali'

Anton,
I think you'll find Kristine at Aladdin uses Kingstown to handle this side of the operation...both top companies in my book. _________________ John.

Yep, but Kingstown also deal with California Shippers and I know they'll send parts over in containers too.
They also deal with somebody in Compton but I wasn't going there to find out more after last time... _________________ Burnt '54 Single Cab, March '55 11 window, '56 EFi turbo'd Ghia, '57DD panel, '59 volksrod.

thanks tub dub.
asked Kristine at Aladdin about shipping the roof. it would be possible using their service but turns out it would cost £200 - 300 more than 2nd hand westy roof would cost over here. |

| woodslat ships roofs and other metal parts inside containers to Southern Kombi Parts in the UK shouldnt cost you too much to add your roof to a container of theirs. I have a westy roof and a riviera roof along with the metal from 2 buses that will be getting shipped before march . worth a try to ask either SKP or woodslat on a price |
