Which is better DPR or DMS, or are they both about the same? I'm starting to plan my 1915 to 2275 upgrade for my baja bug (75% street driven) and was thinking (I like torque):

DPR 82 mm crank
DPR stroker rods (stock rods) http://www.dprmachine.com/Html%20Files/con_rods_1.htm
DPR reground lifters
DPR reground "120" camshaft (regrinds ok or just go new?) will 120 work with 1.25 rockers? (already have them). http://www.dprmachine.com/Html%20Files/cams_1.htm
Mahle 94 mm type B stoker pistons
Steve Timms stage 1 heads
Exisitng 40 IDF webers (upsize vents & jets)
Exsiitng Trimil exhaust with muffler
009 disitirbutor or CB's Magnaspark

Does this seem like a good combo?

There is no difference in quality. They are both superior crankshaft shops. This one you will have to go with a gut feeling when you call them up to check out customer service level.

120 cam with 1.25 rockers is a great combo and will work great with your combo and heads. On lifters, I really like the CB lightweight ones vs reground, they are alot lighter and any weight you can take out of the valve train pays off in spades.

Flip a coin on the crank vendors, DMS and DPR are both the best.

I own a DPR crank and flywheel. If measuring precision is a pastime of yours, you'll get gratification from verifying DPR components.

The one and only Demello crank i've seen was bent. It was .015" out. Right out of the box. Found it during mock up.

Bob Demello (DMS) builds a great crank, just don't be in a hurry to get it, I have been waiting several months on my parts. I would give DPR a try.
Good Luck

I ordered a stock VW crank to replace my 69mm 4340 that was 0.007" out on two journals. I called him back 10 minutes later to ask what his tolerance was. (This is for the stock stroke. I think the welded ones are closer. Anyone know for sure?)

"Like, 0.003" man."
"Do you think my 0.007" is a problem?"
"You don't need my crank, man. You trying to kill mosquitos with a cannon!"
"Are you sure?"
"Run it. Go and run it."
"Thanks Jose. Can I cancel this? I'm sorry. I hope I didn't waste your time."
"Yeah man, no problem, you can cancel. You don't need any of this stuff!"

Just like that. I have not met another vendor that revokes my order when he decides that his stuff won't fix my problem. Guess who my future 82mm is coming from?...

No experience with DMS.

I have used 3 diiferent dpr cranks and have been happy with all of them would nt use anything else.

1 motor was a 69mm c/w -1914
78x90 motor i built for my uncle
And my current 82x94 i am using in my buggy.

I am spinning my 2275 to 7k.You will notice a nice improvement in low end torque with the jump from 1914 to 2275.

I like mine makes driving the dunes alot easier and dont have to keep motor revved up as much and shift less

I ordered a DPR crank a few months back, called Jose just today and told him I needed another for a customer. He actually remembered who I was, was polite and told me the parts were on the shelf and ready to ship. Top notch service.

I checked a set of DPR 311B stroker rods I got a while back, I've never seen a rod balanced so closely right out of the box. Impressive.

They are both good. I just have more dealings w/ Demello in the past. (Chris) and dad I have dealt w/.

I have also installed DPR cranks. Also very good.

The nitriding if so ordered I like getting them done from Demello.

I had Jose at DPR build a crank for my 36 Hp project, I am no engine builder, he asked what I wanted to use it for and suggested a great crank at a very fair price. I was under a time constraint and he really worked with me. Great customer service from DPR.

I had Demello build me a crank for my 1.9 WBX and do a complete balance . I used their services during the Christmas special they have.
It was like 15% off if you had three or more services done by them .Parts were delivered on time and packed well and that thing was smooth as hell for the 3 hrs I had it running before I sold it.
I would not hesitate to use Demello again.
