Anyone ever used these "super stopper" rear wheel cylinders from aircooled.net? The link is to the rear wheel cylinder page, use the drop down menu to select the "super stoppers".

While I'm asking how about their brazilian front cylinders?

These are for my 71SB. I have been running cylinders from FLAPS and have had a few failures. I'm going to bite the bullet and try and get the best avaliable.

BTW I'm running larger tires on the rear Twisted Evil .

The off-roader's old school trick was to switch the wheel cylinders from front to back. That was because the fronts are larger than the rear and this enabled you to run big tires in the back and smaller ones up front, which were less prone to lock up. Before I went to disc brakes I went to Type III rear cylinders which were even bigger than any of the bugs and they worked really well on the rear with the bug rears (smallest ones) up front. In your case for the street you would probably want to try the bigger cylinders up front to give more stopping power. Go with at least Brazilian units and you should be happy.

I am in need of rear wheel cylinders and I bumped into these super stoppers on aircooled.net. Only thread I saw so I figured to just add vs start a new one.

Do they really add enough "WHOA!" then the stock ones? Do they go on with no fitting issues since they are bigger? Is this an aircooled.net exclusive item since I do not see others see a similiar item, that I am aware of. Debating on getting these or stick with some NOS german or Brazilian for 1/2 the price.

The picture looks a lot like a regular front VW wheel cylinder.

Too bad AirCooled does not provide the bore size for the super stoppers....That is what we would like to see.

Example: If the bore was 1 inch on a stock cyl and the superstoppers were 1.1 inches...That would be about a 10% increase in braking to the wheels with the superstoppers when applying the same pedal pressure.

When you put the brakes on with the bigger bore cyl it will take a slight more pedal travel to put the brakes on...
