The color coded pan is just as shiny as the rest of the car. |

I always get in trouble at those museums when they have VWs. "Sir. SIR! Please get out from under the Beetle." I have look ALL over them.
I got busted at the Henry Ford museum in Detroit for stepping over the rope and crawling under a split they had there. My son, who was about 12 or 13 I think, was horrified. "DaaaaDDD!!!" _________________ John Henry

The car is now owned by the Nethercutt museum. Previously owned by a private collector in LA. |

Looks like a great museum, I love those places. And a TRAIN! I am a closet train enthusiast too .....
My next trip to CA, I'll have to look that place up.... _________________ John Henry

JB Nethercutt was the founder of Merle Norman Cosmetics. They have an amazing collection, and they drive a lot of their cars. _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....

i love the tucker in the background. they have one at the henry ford museum and at the national auto museum in reno. i have seen both. when i went to the national auto museum they had a special porsche exibit that was fantastic. it featured a spyder and a gmund 356 along with a few other racing porsches. as part of the collection they had a 46 or 47 beetle i cant remember. either way it is great to see another really nice example of a nice old beetle. _________________ '61 Beetle

Actually what is nice to see is a really old, well done and correct Beetle in a multi-marque museum like this one. Too many museums either don't take the time to research what is correct, or don't solicit the proper contacts in the hobby to get something that is on par with the rest of their cars both in terms of quality and correctness.
The split in the Henry Ford museum has a really bad paint job, orange peel everywhere, but is otherwise very correct and very nice (even the lower engine tin that I had to get a glimpse of!). _________________ John Henry

I also met the curator of the museum, his name is Brian Matson (sp).
Mr. Matson is a very well dressed and knowledgeable gentleman.
His knowledge on cars and mechanical musical instruments are phonomenal. |
