I've always felt that prejudice is on both sides of any fence.
not that i'm saying tie dye & belt buckles or birkenstocks & cowboy boots are a natural harmony..
maybe if lyle lovett sang it? Nah... but Jimmy Buffet could have, maybe it is 5 O'clock somewhere. Opps that was with Alan Jackson.
personally I see nothing wrong with the song, or the adaptation of the song to signify our affliction with our VWs. it suits me the same in moderation as songs with Dancing bears, but i'm accustomed to not quite fitting in with any 'IN' crowd.
