I mounted my limit straps to the upper shock bolt. And a hole that i drilled in the plate on the arm. Depending, you will most likely need to add a tab to the lower arm. For the upper mount a clevis is the way to go, that way you have some adjustment. To set mine i put a floor jack under the arm with the shock off, let it droop until the cv just started to bind and measured for length. I'm not real close to you guys but I have a tow bar you can have. I may be able to bring it up na couple weeks, i had shoulder surgery yesterday so I won't be driving for awhile. _________________ http://www.wix.com/baja5s/nightrun |

Because he used to be accused to being a "Dictator" by some in the forums. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Sal, let me know if you need any parts or anything for the Baja. I'll be heading down there on Monday and could bring some stuff down. _________________ -Thomas

The last of the work got done on the baja yesterday, all nuts and bolts were tightened and seat belts installed. Sunday Owen installed the limiting straps as well and mounted the skid plate, they have about an inch of freeplay. JL came by to drop off some tires and check out the car and gave us some input. So he suggest a cross brace for the rear of the cage to prevent flex and bent it for us (thanks), he also suggested to brace the top shockbolt on both sides, and that the way the limit strap is setup it’s going to prevent the car from having full flex, so long limiting straps might needed. The car is officially ready for its shakedown run. I also took some pics of the pivot bolt which look’s totally different from what Baja5 posted so how can we secure it??? There was a bunch of people at B-Rads yesterday!!!

Car looks great. That pivot bolt is the same as my car, I just used the Kartek kit to secure them.

Sal, I dont think the pivot bolt in the picture is in all the way. It seems to be sticking out pretty far
When is the run in Afton Canyon going to be?
Also, you probably want to sleeve the hole where the bolt goes through the cage in the back if you can. the forces on that bolt will likely bend and tweak the tubing there. _________________ '69 Baja Bug

Just noticed that you have both washers to the outside of the trailing arm pivot, that might be why the bolt is sticking out. I have one one either side of the bushing.
Any news on the run next weekend? I dont come on this site too often, so be sure to post it up. _________________ '69 Baja Bug

You are supposed to have 2 washers on the outside. _________________ All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business

There was a big debate on this over on STF. It was conluded that either way will work, but depends on your trailing arm/spring plate set up. With both on the outside with my current set-up, my axles would bind in the middle of travel.
And I wasnt trying to tell Sal it was wrong, just offering a different possibility as to why the bolts stuck out... _________________ '69 Baja Bug

Ok fellas, here is the latest just got off the phone with Owen about the shakedown run... It has been moved to the 27th. We are expecting to arrive at Afton Canyon by 9AM, the shakedown run will begin at 10 we expect to be out there for about 6 hours. Also the towbar Brad borrowed to somebody it was a widened towbar, if you got it pm me if not- Baja5 if the towbar don't turn we'll take the one you have....

You can use large muffler clamps to keep a stock tow bar centered on a widened beam. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
