Are you guys still doing the weekend run in april? I'm not sure I can make the march shakedown, I had shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago and still can't drive the baja. And just let me know about the tow bar.

The baja got some more love this week. Owen did some more fine tuning on the motor, finished all the electrical, cross brace was added to the cage, shock bolts mouning boxed, and pivot bolt reinforced. Special thanks to JL for fabbing the cross brace and baja5 for the tow bar. Owen will fab the tow bar for trip on Saturday. I installed my skidplate, changed oil and filter, adjusted valves, and installed 034 dizzy so my car is also ready.

What an awesome trip!!! So much happened in that one day, we totally had a great time. We all gathered at Afton Campground for the shakedown run. Owen in Brad’s baja, my class 11, Mike’s rail, and Pauls Blazer. So the guys take off down to the river crossing/water hole as I get my rig ready. Get down there and they are already across I wasn’t sure how to approach getting across, couldn’t tell how deep it was all I saw was the guys on the other side with there camera’s . So I just gunned it (bad idea) got halfway and died right in the middle of the water. The car started taking water, lol. My little girl thought we were going to drown. I started the motor up and made it out , Owen said that was the deepest and longest he’d ever seen the water crossing. After we all stopped laughing and some draining of the water out my car we headed towards the other three river crossings luckily they weren’t as deep and we went right through them. Brad’s baja performed flawlessly, didn’t have any trouble with anything it drove right over everything effortlessly. Owen drove it the way Brad would of Hard. Owen took us around to a mining site, a cave, and a memorial in the middle of nowhere that we cleaned up. He also took some time out to show the kids how to drive in the baja, same as Brad did when he was 8 ½, my 14 year old boy did pretty well, Ginger not so well she slammed the gas and tried to blow through a big ass bush and got stuck, lol. So we went through a couple of miles of really soft sand I think we all got got stuck and unstuck at least once made it to the turnaround point. On the way back my wife ran over a railroad nail, I kept hearing a tap so we stopped and didn’t see it we drove a bit more and stopped again and that when I saw it. So we went to change the tire and didn’t have the a breaker to bust the lugs off and I decided to drive as far as I could with it. We were about 50 miles from camp and unbelievably we made it all the way back. I got towed through the huge water crossing but was able to make it through the others. We got back to camp changed the tire had some bbq and when we were leaving the campground I found my rack on the side of the road, lol then we really headed home. It was a great day Owen is going to make some changes to the baja before the campout in April, I need some new tires and I busted the adjuster bolt, clean sheer on the block so im going to need a new front beam more updated to come….

Looks like you guys had a fun day. Im really sorry I couldnt make it out. I will be at the trip at the end of the month for sure.

I had the same thing happen to be with the rail road tie! No spare, So I used duct tape to make a patch! Laughing

If you come in from the Rasor Road side, you dont have to make that water crossing. Wink

Looked like a alot of fun. We are still planning on the weekend trip, although if my shoulder isn't much better the wife will be driving. Oh, and I respectfully decline to cross that water hole. too many holes in the body and a $300 computer I can't afford to replace Shocked

Don't sweat it Rico, we'll see you in April Very Happy Very Happy , im surprised how well the tire held up, we planned that when the tire shredded they would go back to camp and get my tools (great place to keep them, lol) but the tire held up. Baja5 by April the water level should be down an inch maybe two Razz Razz Razz. It was a real long day the spare i had was the og to the car spare - 41 year old tire. So i put it on and cruised 55 on the way home didn't want to push my luck anymore than i already had, took 4 hours got in bed at 12. Then i had to get up at 5 am to take my son 3 hours north to Tehachapi to Woodward Skate Park for the week.

Sal, where are you planning on camping for the weekend trip?

Im just throwing this out there, but since the water crossing is so high, it might be better to camp at Basin or Rasor Road. You can access the OHV from there more easily too. And get into Afton Canyon still. From the pictures, it looks like you guys spent most of your time on the Rasor Road OHV side anyway. The monument is Crucero. Right where I killed my old baja Laughing

Rick i will talk with the powers that be you make a valid point.

It's funny because when we got into the truck to drive out i had suspected the rack fell off on the road to the campgrounds. I told everyone keep an eye out for the rack and sure enough there it was perfect way to cap off our crazy day, lol
