I did 650 miles in 12hrs straight, at around 63-70mph gps last week in my '63
Also did this trying to pass a semi at one point who wouldn't leave me alone.
Fastest ive gone was 155 on a streetbike that I ended up wrecking through a T intersection due to bad breaks and a bald tire. (bike was a friends)
I was 155 flat out on a 600r ducked behind the windscreen and my friend on his 900RR left me from 155mph and got to the stop sign. I slowed down too late, back tire locked up and slid, i controlled the crash 100% and dumped the bike on its side and layed on top of it while it slid through the intersection, caught the rough gravel and grass then I flew off of it about 10 feet and landed on my feet. I was wearing workwear khaki's and didn't get a grass stain or anything on my boots either. That was about 6 years or so ago and the 60ft skidmark is still at the intersection |

224 on the back straight at Pocono for 75 miles. But it wasn't in an air cooled VW. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

I've had my tired '72 Super (stock 1600cc with over 200,000 original miles, no rebuilds) up to 82 before...that's all it would do. _________________ My '72 Super

I don't have any stories about my super beetle, but I buried the speedo in my old 1992 civic VX, probably around 135mph down hill, took me a while to get there though.
Also in my old 99 saab 9-5 wagon, 6 cylinder turbo, had it up to 140 twice, the second time ended in lower end knocking and refusal to run. Had that car for 27 hours, the dealer refused to pay to fix it, so I got a 04 concorde off his lot with a 2 year warranty. By the way, the saab dying had nothing to do with me getting on it for short bursts, but it had a known timing belt problem, that I was not informed of. _________________ 1972 super beetle

I drive daily between 60 and 100kms (40-60miles) in my stock 1200cc '73 beetle.
I've almost reached 130km/h (80miles/hour) once on a cold day, using unleaded fuel instead of super LRP. I needed to go back home and couldn't find a gas station at that moment with the correct fuel. So I guess I had a 70/30 mixture of 98 octane unleaded and 95 octane super LRP in my tank.
Moments before the engine fail, I felt a big heat wave in the car coming from the engine and right after the smell of oil burning, and white smoke at the back. Aaah, great moments for my bug
I fixed the engine and now I never go over 110 (70miles)/h, usually somewhere between 90-105 (55-65miles)/hour |

135 in a 90 civic hb w/ turbo bseries for about 10miles across a local bridge
speedo stopped at 140 in a wild bridge ported 87 rx7 so no clue how fast i was going but at the other side of the bridge i had to get gas because i only got about 3mpg(regular city driving) and i had a half a tank when i started...
70 in my bug which felt like i was flying for only a few miles... _________________ I ♣ Baby Seals

fastest ive had my 1600 baja bug up to is somewhere around 90-95. i was on my way back from snow boarding and some a-hole in a diesel truck smoke blasted me when he cut me off on an up hill section. we got to the top i let gravity do its thing and we past that truck like he was standing still! my friend was in the passnger seat screaming "she cant take any more captain, shes falling apart!" loud shaky, and white knuckled. dude in the truck was probably laughing hiss ass off when he saw this little green blur go flying by. going that fast in the mountains in a vw bug that sits 14 inches off the ground is a real kick in the pants but its still seems to corner decently . fastest car was a buddies suped up wrx doing 140 for about a mile down a stretch of city road with a speed limit of 30 to get burger king(about 11 at night). never seen city blocks go by that quickly. |

Went flat out from Wolfsburg to Berlin on the 2 for about 100 miles. We were doing an average of 220km which should be around 135mph. I miss Germany! _________________ 59 Single Cab, 64 Type II, A3 GLX, A4 GLS, B5 GLS |

This is the fastest I have ever gone in my bug, but I had my 76 Trans Am with a 455 up to 160 before it floated on me. Scared me enough to not want to go that fast again. |

That's really scary man!
Interesting speedometer though, what are all those extra lights for? Is it an aftermarket unit? |

| No its a speedo from an autostick. There is an extra light for the trans overheating, There is also a light in the upper left side that is unused. From searching on here it looks like some kind of European light that wasn't used in the US. |
