If you just want a camper why not sell the ambulance to someone who wants an ambulance and buy something to make into a camper, or even something that is already a camper? I think you could get a lot more for the ambulance than you would pay for a camper?

Nifartachi, I think this is that simple. Your amBUSlance is potentially of great value, maybe not in Romania, but in France, yeah, for sure. There's a strong VW scene there, and split buses sell for big money. You could drive it there, sell it, and then buy a camper with the ca$h or restore one of your other buses. The bus is french (originally delivered in France) with a french ambulance conversion, and has a funny french history (those crazy french volunteers). All this adds to the value of a common ambulance. You could really sell it, and you probably should if you don't really like it as an ambulance. You scored well finding it. Now you have a lil' treasure that you have to use the best possible way to help you get your dream bus. While I was still in France I scored a 1962 fire dept bus in Nice (french Riviera). I didn't keep it because I didn't feel like cruising in a red panel with flashing light and siren. BUT it had some value for some others and I sold it for decent money and bought a '66 camper. I sold the '66 when I needed money but I had my split bus camper for a while...
It's your bus and you'll do as you wish, but that would really be something to consider IMHO. If you need some help finding french VW websites with classifieds, I can help, or can give you ideas of european shows to go where you would surely be able to sell the amBUSlance and find your camper, or even trade...

Pierre

P.S : + you speak french, so, easy for you Wink

Yep, just like that snail, just like that freaking snail...

Almost one year has past since I've got her and I've already bought the first part for her resurrection.

I know, kind of hasty...

Arrived today from Germania:

I would like to publicly thank Pierre for his willingness to help me retrieve the papers from France. Pierre, there was no need to ask you anything as I've called the prefecture and they've told me the car was out of their evidence for many, many years.

Down here, in browny Rromania, even if you have all the paper work, they will find something wrong for sure:

There's no need of a translation, is it? Laughing

I'm glad to see you pushing forward and giving it justice, it's too cool to sell. Campers are WAYYYY overrated.

I plan some long trips through Europe and sleeping on an ambulance stretcher ain't a very appealing option.

The cargo area will be fitted with some wood camping furniture made by a peasant wood craftsman from my grandma's village.

I hope I'm not disappointing you or anyone else with my camping conversion plans.

Not much OG ambu stuff left there, only the cab divider; I'll only remove the glass from there. If she had been complete, I wouldn't have dare to touch her, but as she is the way she is, I'll mess a little bit with her. Twisted Evil

I would say not necessary camping, if you just like long trips, it's much better to have a camping kit back there. Smile

I'd just go ahead and turn it into a camper. I'd be totally creeped out camping in that stock ambulance interior, and there's no sense in having the bus if you can't enjoy it. Just make sure to keep all the parts and make the conversion tasteful and reversible.

They've just arrived! Very Happy

Got them from http://vwsplitparts.com/. It would have been interesting to go to the customs office and ask for a package from South America, right from Columbia. Laughing

I've paid for some other funky green parts but they weren't in stock. Those will be shipped for free, when they'll have them. Is your funky green supplier as cool as mine? Smile

Very Happy You're very welcome my friend. It would have been a great pleasure to help you if I could. So, the prefecture was able to help you in any way ? Did you have the title ? I was in France this winter and thought about this, but had no news from you. I'm glad you could get in touch with the prefecture by yourself, and glad to see resto is beginning... Wink

Pierre, it will be a real headache registering the car. In browny Rromania we have a pollution tax which for the ambuslance might reach around 5000 Euro.

At the prefecture of Charente I've talked with a nice lady who told me they have no title, since the car was out of their evidence.

Since there's no way registering her in Rromania, due to that huuuuge tax, other options are Bulgaria, Hungary and Germany. Don't know yet how things are in Austria.

Shocked 5000 euro is a bit much ! If you can register it in another country, I'd say go for it. That's what is cool with European Union Cool . But, maybe the bus could be tax exempt due to his age ? Maybe in one of the many office of romanian bureaucracy there's someone with the right paper to fill in, to be free of tax... Laughing
Good luck with whatever solution you find.

Well, I could avoid ALL taxes, if I register the car as an oldtimer.

I've talked with a guy from a local club affiliated to FIVA but his voice changed when I've told him about my intentions to make it a ratlook. To those guys, new shiny paint is better than faded og paint. #Fist

Thanks, Pierre.
