Yes! I researched....
couldn't find what im looking for...
1) THe generator stand metal gasket is to point to the "right" loovers down?? right?? ok check....
2) the intake metal gaskets are to have the ridge facing upward when installing???
3) metal or thicker fabric like intake gaskets...
4) there is too different sizes for the gen/alt stand (1) gasket that has smaller loovers and on that has larger..(was thinking of putting the smaller loover'd one in becuase i had issues when it the larger one was installed correctly..) which one!!
I ask these because after starting up my "new/rebuild" engine it only ran on the "left" side.. so we knew it was an intake leak.. (because it ran great when rev'd higher..)
and we also had lots of oil coming up from the gen/alt stand into the air cleaner.... YES THE ALT/GEN STAND GASKET WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY!! im 100% positive (researched on here seen multiple posts about it and had my friend (30 yr vw mechanic) come over and he said it was installed correclty...
Thanks again Guys!!! _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

The louver size doesn't make a difference. Main thing it prevents oil from foaming or coming up the neck. |

im asking because i had the gasket installed correctly and i had oil still coming up the neck and into the line that goes to the air cleaner....
when i took apart everything (to fix an intake leak) and this issue i verified i had the correct direction etc... and then got out my gasket kit sets..
and bam! (2) different sized loovers same gasket both fit.. didn't know if there was a larger one or a smaller one....
figuring that a larger one would be the root of my problem..
Thanks! _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

well im going to use the smaller loover'd gasket....
hopefully that will solve the oil blow by in air cleaner...
and i believe ridge up is the correct way to postion the intake metal gaskets...
ill be careful when installing them to torque one bolt then the other...
nice and even to get a good squish....
i also have the fabric style that i will use instead if i can find them both.... jeez where did i put the other gasket....
Thanks!! please post if you have ANYTHING to contribute... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

You can install them that way but louver down is the correct way.
The louver down way deflects the oil down before it ever enters the generator/alternator stand. _________________ Gary

yep got that... just that there is two different sized loover'd sections....
ill get a picture... i used the smaller one and put it back together and still getting some (not that much) oil squirting into the air cleaner... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Louver size will not do a thing to help your problem, if you are getting oil pushed up through breather tube its probable because of to much pressure in case maybe to much blow by at rings..... You are trying to cure a symptom and maybe not the problem....

ok... Thanks ill check into the oil pressure side of your statement...
to be honest when the engine started for the first time the oil pressure gauge wasn't working..(still isn't) so i will look into getting it wired correctly and report back what i get....
i ended up going with the "felt" intake gaskets and used the smaller "looverd" gasket face down to the right...
after start up ( didnt get a chance to break it in since it wasn't running on both sides last time) i got a milkly oil mixture coming up still from the alt/gen stand... def. not as much....but still a little
seemed really hot but i haven't been around an aircooled engine that ran for quite a while.. (will get a thermometer and oil pressure gauge fixed before next start up)...
also want to note that i got a "white" smoke coming out of the exhaust after shut down and it smelled weird... i figure it might be the grease that i put on the gaskets (only a light film..)
any ideas? _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

The smaller the holes, the less breathing, the more oil will blow.... |
