just finished my stereo install also, thought id show everyone...

my dilemma:

- sick and tired of head units, its all old technology and for the top of the line stuff you pay through your nose.

- i would have been fine with a retro radio but wanted more functionality & audio options

so, i installed an iphone / ipod dock connector into the ashtray as previously shown. the "flimsy or not solid mount" is bs, my iphone sits in there solid. any ipod ive tested fits and works so far!

on top of that it charges & is powered by 2 amps, 200 rms for the 2 polk audio 6.5's and a 300 Rms for the 10" kenwood sub i had kicking around.

as for controlling the volume, it was a bit of an issue as with using docks it disables your volume control on the iphones, however i fixed this issue by installing 2 line level knobs ( volume control & bass level )

everythings wired in & works, just have to mount the volume / bass knob in the factory spot... my biggest issue now is what do i do with the dash opening?? Laughing ideas so far are tissue dispenser or candy dish... any ideas?

and the fact that there are tons of radio apps for the iphone including sirius and xm for paid subscriptions. personally enjoy the 25,000 free radio stations! most apps allow you to record and replay what you want when you want too Smile

are you guys getting power for your deck from the fuseblock or have you run a separate power wire? We have a local drive in and the movies are in FM. I dont want to ruin points or anything else with the stereo on but the bus not running

I put a kill switch in to cut power to the coil for this reason. It's very easy to do under your dash. Took five minutes for me and worth every minute.

I've got an extra (fused) power wire running up front to an extra fuse box mounted behind the passenger kick panel that powers the radio as well as my gauges and power outlets for charging stuff. Ran it along the wiring harness when I put in a new harness a few years ago.

My stereo is mounted in a Tuffy console intended for a Jeep. It's painted and upholstered to match the interior and the stereo is out of sight and lockable. Makes for a nice armrest too and drink holder too. Amps are under the seats.

This shot shows how it works a bit better. The stereo is under that hinged plate. If you lock the console, the stereo is locked in also. Unlock the console and flip the stereo cover open for driving around. Works really well and keeps the stereo out of sight of all those dirtbag thieves walking around.

Hey guys,
This bus belongs to a buddy of mine....he's done a bunch of suspension work to it....I think he's actually on this site...but not sure.

Anyways...he's going to meet all you guys down in California in a few weeks for a big meet....and he wanted some sound.....so I did this.
Pretty fun little project..didn't take too long and I don't think it takes away from the stock look too much. Dash was hacked by the previous owner, so until he strips it down and repaints everything, this is how it'll look until then.
