WOW...I just spent my whole day at work and then some reading all 19 pages and the links in it. What a douche. I guess tomorrow I will google his name and shop so I'll have something to do. I have a '74 Super Beetle like Joan and mine looks a hell of a lot better and it hasn't even been restored yet.

This is without a doubt the most insane thing I've ever read on thesamba, if not on the entire internet. To top it all off, Mario actually comes on undisguised and asks to be classed in the same category as Boyd Coddington or "Chip Foust". Ludicrous. Almost as ludicrous as the random apologists trying to intervene on his behalf.
PT Barnum once said "There's one born every minute" and Mr. Gavazzi is clearly well aware of this fact and takes advantage of every one who's ignorant enough to seek out his services. It's people like him that make me glad there's websites like thesamba to educate people who own a VW but know next to nothing about them or how they're actually restored and fixed. Why no one has taken it upon themselves to personally teach this guy a lesson is beyond me. Almost as mystifying as the fact that he continues to operate as a (licensed?) business after all these years of ripping people off. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:
I hope you get something out of the guy but beware ...... Mario likes to boast that he's "Judgment Proof", which is his way of saying he pretty much doesn't have a pot to piss in. I believe what little he "owns" is in his wife Sherry's name. Several have gotten judgments against him but I don't think anyone has collected.
Of course, Mario is so stupid that he thinks being "Judgment Proof" is a good thing. The guy walks around in some sort of alternate reality Bizzarro World where up is down, black is white, a concours restoration requires a 5 gallon bucket of bondo and excellent welding is accomplished with coat hanger wire and looks like chewing gum. Go figure.
i was looking for the thread about Joan's car. there was some mention about it in this thread, but wasn't there an entire thread about her car? if so, can someone post a link?

I'm selling everything off if your interested , I have tons of parts and project cars or it all goes to the crusher.
Mario
Y'all need to collect your judgments before it's all gone and he slides back under his drum of bondo for good.
Hmm, how much of "his" stuff actually belongs to him? After reading all the stuff about him it's likely that anything you might get came from a dubious origin.

he's just missing all the negative attention he used to get... he posted this crap to RAMVA a day or two ago... if it's not just attention he's after, I hope he enjoys his Karma payback... _________________

I Hope All Air-Cooled Volkswageners & Karmann Ghiista Read This!
THE MOST HEINOUS CASE OF GHIACIDE IN THE 21ST CENTURY!!
THE GAVAZZIS RUIN A RARE COLLECTIBLE CLASSIC.
I'm talking about Mario and Sherry (Kelly) GAVAZZI,
dba VINTAGE WERKS/CUSTOM CREATIONS in BURLINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA. The victims of the crime are (me,of course) and my 1967 Karmann Ghia "Deluxe" Convertible [vin # 147421165].
You Volkswagen aficionados probably already know that that particular year-model is among the rarest and most collectible in the entire Volkswagen opus;there were only 4183 produced to begin-with,and only a small percent of those are estimated to still be on the road worldwide!
long long long long story short: The car was running fine-I drove it to North Carolina from Arizona with no problems, and have been traveling up and down the East Coast in it for many years-everybody loved it,and it was fun to drive and very very good to me-but after almost 40 years of heavy use, it was ready for a restoration to remove the usual rust and all the history of past bad damage-repairs and the miserable bondo-fills and overpaint jobs that we all know about. After YEARS of dawdling and procrastination,THE GAVAZZIS have managed to deconstruct my Ghia to the point whence it is worth LESS THAN ZERO;it is currently a rusty hulk sitting in the shop that has recently been ABANDONED by the aforementioned, and the status of divers and several ultra-rare parts and accessories supplied from my own collection that go with it is still as yet undetermined.
I have come to realize that restoring an antique car these days is pretty-much a wealthy man's (/woman's) hobby, and I simply do not have much expendable cash to put in to continue this project at another venue;I am sorry to say:
"The dream is dead...but, at least I HAD a dream"
Don't let this happen to you. I am releasing this message to the Volkswagen community and all other interested parties in the hopes that these CROOKED OPERATORS will someday be caught and prosecuted for crimes against this sweetheart of a Ghia in particular, and all of their ripped-off clients and their cars in general. I have heard many negative reports on THE GAVAZZIS before, but continued with them even beyond the seeming point-of-no-return because I kept HOPING-AGAINST-HOPE that my one-of-a-kind '67 would once again shine.
Rest in peace...and bad karma to M. & S.
