Jeff,
Nice setup, I was thinking of going to a Berg 5 speed.
Several other guys who have built their Manta's, have used V8 engines.
Back in the early 70's I was a Mechanic at a VW dealership and used to rebuild Beetles that were traded in, so the Dealer could resell them. I've always had a soft spot for the lowly little Bug engine.
But don't underestimate what a 1915 can do.
I borrowed a link from another thread in the Forum.

The Coyote from Hardcastle was modified by our dune buggy creator Dean Jeffries. He really liked the names Mantaray and Coyote.
Established his name in the car world by designing and building the Mantaray
Then the Mantaray II Kyote
The Kyote 1
Kyote II
Coyote
Cody Coyote

The 1915 is supposedly a strong engine. I went with the Subie to do something different, less maintnance and anyway I can't make a VW run worth anything!!!!!

Having put almost 400 miles on my car since I've had it back on the road, I've been passed by about twenty cop cars and none of them has turned around to ask me about my headlights.
This past weekend, that changed. I went to a local car show and parked next to a 2008, GT500KR. All day long everyone was asking me about the car, including four uniformed Florida Highway Patrol Officers that were walking through the event. All four were standing at the front looking at the car. One asked me, "What kind of a car is this ?" I told him it is a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle Kit Car. He insisted there was no way that it was a VW, until I raised the back of the car and showed them the engine. They were somewhat disappointed that I didn't have an exotic V-12 engine or something. I told them my little engine was plenty fast enough to get a speeding ticket whenever I wanted. They just laughed. Then one Officer asked if my tiny headlights were bright enough. I explained what they were and all four of them agreed that they looked nice and were completely street legal. By this time, I had about fifteen other people standing around listening to me talk to the Police. One of the people asked about my bright red, custom color paint and said he never saw a red that color.
I said very loudly, it was a one off color I had my Painter mix and I call it, "Arrest Me Red". Everyone, including the Officers got a laugh over that.

You can vent them out pretty nicely and also make the side windows detachable.

To me - this is still one of the most beautiful cars ever designed! The lines and overall shape never get old. Maybe one of these days.... _________________ 70's vintage Deserter GS buggy - undergoing transformation to Super GS! |

Just go to www.mantacars.com There's always something going on on the forum. I'm number #94 in the Montage registry.
