i looked and looked and found a relay out of a saab
that has similar numbers and general placement on the tabs
OG: 411 941 583C (can use #111 941 583)
Quote:

Part Code: 4109070A
Part Name: Bulb Check Relay
Part Description:
Bulb check relay for any 9000 94-98, 900 94-98, 9-3 99-03, 9-5 all.
The German made PA6 Hella relay (Saab part no. 4109070) is Hella part no. 5KG005675-01.

i dont have 25-30 dollars for this relay
on OG: 56,56a,56b, S
saab: 56a, 56al, 56aR, 56b, 56bl, 56bR, 31, C2

i can just pull the wires out of the fuse box and hook it up

S on OG relay in same spot as 31 on orange relay
im beleiving that the "a" is front and "b" is back
and there is L/R for each

56aR,56al and C2 are all smaller tabs and can be cut and not used
on the relay in my 411 the 56a isnt hooked to anything

sorry so the pics are so big
i used digital macro

in the pool service
we would have rusty tools all the time
and we would soak a rag in Tranny Fluid and wrap them up
next day they would work perfect

can i just either soak it in Tranny or Brake fluid
i just need it to work untill i can get the real one

Ok...here is the problem. 411's and 412's are notorious for leaking around the corners of the windshield. The water dribbles down and leaks into the relays which are upside down. It keeps them full of water. You need to take a file or dremel and knock the corners off the relay covers so they drain. Then smear the bottoms with silicone sealer and plug them back in after they dry. Until you fix the windshield gaskets...this will keep this from happening.
Better check your blinker relay as well. If you are dying for a relay...I can send you a spare. Ray

i need to bridge the terminals to see if it clicks without the turn switch
(which terminals?)

i have outer low beams
and i here a slight click when flicking the turn switch
but they dont change

in Virginia i had an Old Spark Plug Cleaner that hooked to the cigerette lighter
i used that to media blast the ends of the wires on my 67 and 70 T3s
cant find one now...damn

hey,,guy,, i make my best for to help you,, i know my english is not very good,, but my expérience on the 412 is not too bad,,thanks RAY,, btw,, if you look the pict.no 6,, you can see métal blade on the white plastic roller,, at each time you click the stearing arm, the métal blade swing on each side of the plastic gear,,she slide each side of the point, the most long plastic point,, by this action ,, you have the contact on the hi or low beam,,this realy is spécial for vw or motor cicle,, the stearing swith geeve the 12 volts on the realy coil,,,, only for 1 sec. ,,,only the time you make the click on the stearing swith,,it is like that for the long life for the coil,,tooday on the modern car ,,the stearing swith keep the 12 volts for the contact,, not like the old vw,, your problem is from the rust and the switching blade is a kind of spring blade ,, and now the blade d,t can keep her spring and she is finish,, look for to find an good relay,,vw,,or harley motor cicle,, the modern realy d,t can doo the job,,french bb412,,lol,,

i have a couple other relays i got from keifernet that im going to try
but if they dont work
what should i be looking at

**For ALL ACVW Owners**
i bought another small 12v spark plug cleaner
i have used them before to "media blast" the tips of wires
they are just too hard to use a regular small brush

when the new one gets here im going to take the fuse box apart and clean all wires and soak the plastic parts so there is No Rust Anywhere
(also going to do EVERY wire end in the car)

my car has been sitting for more than 20 years
everything is dirty
i mean couple coats of brown, dirty!

and if you find it hard to type English as you speak french
try this http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt

i wonder how it would translate "Literally"..ha

sharks,,, look your pict,,5,, on the lefgth side of the realy,, you can see the 2 contact with long blade in the midle,, the midle blade is for 12 volts,, and the 2 oder contact are for the hi or low beam,, if you push on the midle blade for to geeve the contact on the bothom contact ,,the low or hi beam are on,, if the fuse burn ,, the realy is ground or you have an short circuit on the light wire,,make sure you have the good électric diagram for your car,,good luck,,,bb412

ok so ...???

56---power from the headlight switch
56a--High Beams
56b--Low Beams
S-----Ground?...goes form headlight relay to heater switch?
31----?????

what is 31 for???

after taking my 411 to the VW get together this friday
"baby's first day out" Laughing

Most of the electrics are coming out
all the wires are getting cleaned
take the Emergency, headlight switch, radio, guages all out
all the relays will be cleaned

i think as you said bb412 the rust is just kinda everywhere
here and there on all the electrics

im also going to check things like continuity and such of the wires for everything i clean
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

so im looking in my Drake and Clymer books and at the wiring diagram
and this is off a bus page
THIS one has dual horns
any of the others up till this one(year)
dont have duals

im tring to figure which diagram is correct

and didnt i see a diagram that was Colored/Vertical/English
in one of these posts not long ago

sharks,, the 31 is a kind of ground for ,, realy ferrit,, it is for to ground the métal in the center of your realy coil,, not for the rest of the realy,, only for the center of the coil,,,,2,,, if you have the rust in the contact of the realy,,that can make an short circuit ,, each contact blade are insulate of the body ground,, the ,,,S,, is the normal ground for the realy coil,,the stearing swith is not ,,positive power,, the ,,S,, go on the stearing swith,,, and the stearing frame is your ,,S,,ground,,and the circuit is close,,

I just had the same problem as you. It rained a lot on Sunday night, on Monday morning I had no headlights, I pulled the relay and it was full of water. I pulled it apart to dry it and it was just as rusty as yours. i replaced it with my spare and it would click but no lights. I pulled it apart, cleaned it and I either had a right low beam or they would get stuck on high. Later it just stopped working. I went to my friend's place and he had a used one lying around. I installed it and I got them working again.
