I just received this today and while I am amazed at how great it looks there were some problems with mine.
The box looked like it had been dropped a bit on the corner. The driver door latch on the body post was floating around in the box, so the driver door post needs the latch plate glued back in. The rear window uppermost jail bar was bent and still is, the mounts are glued a bit off. There was glue on the ragtop, not much but enough to notice. The steering is really notchy, it's a rack and pinion and mine is pretty bad. The wheels roll poorly, like bent axles, I guess I just expected too much. They only made 1500 of these, I just assumed it would be flawless. I really do like it though despite all its flaws, kinda like my real bus .
Bent jail bar
Next to the 1:24 Franklin Mint bus and a Brekina:
This model has semaphores but I can't tell if there is a mechanism that actuates them, I have got one to come out a bit but I'm afraid to break it if I pull on it:
The manual does not cover the semaphore operation, can anyone tell me how theirs works? Anybody else get one of these that had problems also?
Thanks.
EDIT: Got the semaphore out, just had to pull it with the included stick and set it by hand.

Good eye, maybe they were using cross-compatible parts from the 1962 Deluxe model they made a couple years ago. The bumpers do appear to be slash blades front and rear.

Very cool.
I can see a few attributes are wrong for a '56 but overall it looks super nice. |
If you have time to point out the incorrect attributes, please do, I will still appreciate it for what it is, so don't hold back. Thanks. |

It is strange that they have the wrong bumpers fitted. The blue kombi from a few years ago had the ribbed bumpers on it.

I have the Samba bus and the '49 Beetle and overall I am very happy with them BUT:
The engine is incorrect in both in that it has the fresh-air heater boxes. After all that attention to detail it doesn't seem right to have skimped on the engine.
And the door lock on the Bus rear door stopped working (I would periodically change how I was displaying the bus but stopped after that happened.)
They are beautiful models nonetheless and reasonably priced for the level of detail (especially if you get them at a discount courtesy of your VW club president ). _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

These items jumped out at me:
Bumpers, as someone said
Engine looks more like stale-air 40hp - generator stand, spark plug wire holders
Red distributor is weird
Cargo door inside handles look more like 61-67 ones
Front seat base is adjustable(?), looks like a 61-62 adjustment bracket
No pockets in front door panels
No trim rings on wheels
Gas gauge? Shouldn't be one for 1956 _________________ How to Post Photos

Dead on, good call! Looks like there aren't any RGB's in there either.
I haven't seen a more detailed model of a Bus to date though, are there any better Bus models out there? The Sunstar 1:12's are great, I really like the bugs and kombis too.
Ebay has the best prices it would seem on the Sunstar 1:12's:

79SuperVert, who is the president of the VW club and how does the discount work? After seeing all the sweet 1:12's, I may be in need of a discount somehow . |
