Looks great you really went all out,so don't let some cold & lack of sunlight slow you down! Here in Hawaii we have the opposite problem,too much sunlight!! |

I saw your posts in another forum I think, really enjoying the latest developments - I will be doing similar welding repairs (making patch pieces, same areas) and your pictures are most helpful!
Looking forward to follow, post lots of pics!
I had a friend from Liege (french speaking guy) years ago... I am French (from Marseille). What are the other cars I see in the photos?

Thanks for the comments!
Jep you're right... I'll just work a little bit harder to keep myself warm but you can't push these things, when I'm not in the mood to start working on it I just don't do it then... You start messing things more then you're fixing them ... But I still have a entire week of holiday in december so I'm planning to get some big works done in that week.
The other cars (not all mine...I rent the place with a good friend of mine)
Audi 50 (practically the same as VW Polo mk1, from my friend)
Auto Union 1000 (from my friend as well... he's more in the Audi-thing )
Then we have my split;
The other ones are a mini cooper and an Opel Manta (from an other friend). That's all _________________ Oval bug '56 "Marie" (*resto*)

Question, I notice you do not have a body number stamp or made in western germany tag. No tag makes it a domestic delivery not export but why no body number? Also, what was on the left side of the tag?
I also noticed the pans were red primer under the black paint, have they been replaced or primered at some point or is your car a CKD?
What info does your birth certificate show as port of delivery?
All your work is great, I guess I shouldnt complain about cold temps here in CA! |

it was not possible to get a birth certificate... micro film was crumbled and useless...
The tag says GLASSOMAX (co-company from the German one > Glasurit). And the car has had an accident over the years I presume so it could be that this has been replaced. But they already start "restauring" the car as you can see on the pics in the beginning of the topic. It is also an original Belgium car so it could be that it was assembled in Belgium it self because we had a VW assembly factory here. So I'm guessing in the dark here _________________ Oval bug '56 "Marie" (*resto*)

Since my other bug ('70) got sold yesterday I need to spend some more time with to oval to get it finished a bit faster... I don't have an other oldie to drive right now so I'm going slightly crazy !!!
Pictures of today's work + a bit from wednesday;
Front plate of the door cutted out and cleaned it up a bit. Was in a very good condition.
The only thing I need to weld is the below edge of the door, so I made it;
Here is it supposed to be;
It finaly should look like this;
So today I started on the left back corner... I wanted to get this done first before welding in the sidepanel. The metal was a bit swollen as well so... It could only mean one thing... F*cking rust!
And I was fucking right about it...
Hmmmm I like my hobby so much !!! this is the reason where I'm doing it for
Cleaned up a litlle bit so I can continue next week...
Made some sheet metal to fix the down side of the inner panel in the corner.
First step
Second...
Perfect fit !! I love it... Much better then the sheet metal you buy for over XXX € or $

indeed + bench screw (don't know it's the correct translation...) or an anvil can be used as well! once you know how it works it's a piece of cake! I'll make some pictures nect week in detail how I create the "rib" in the plate... you can use this technique as well for restauring the rear fenders _________________ Oval bug '56 "Marie" (*resto*)
