So this is Bob, my 1974 Bug, I am the 4th owner and its lived its entire life in Virginia. I actually bought it in May, but its sat in my garage since because I was deployed overseas. Now that Im back, its time to get it back on the road. It was originally red, now white. Still has the original engine. THe engine (AH216830) was rebuilt in Jan of 99 @ 18286. Currently @ 51175 and as far as I can tell the mileage has rolled over once.
Some little rust here and there and there is some rust thru in the floorpan behind the drivers seat. Here are some pictures since I know thats what everyone likes.

Original?
It says RED
Don't look red to me.
Still... it's a start.
BTW.. .you might not want the key number posted since you can get another cut from that number and then anyone can take the car. _________________ Glenn 74 Beetle Specs | 74 Beetle Restoration | 2180cc Engine "You may not get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get"

I even said that glenn, Originally red, now white. And I didn't think about the key # but not much I can do now. Someone really wants to steal my bug, not having the key wouldn't really stop them. _________________ -Patrick- | 1974 Standard Beetle "Bob" | 1976 Westy "Fozzie" |Vintage VDubz Club

My replay was directed to Spanky.
True, but no sense making it easy.
Anyway, it's still a nice start and I have a soft spot for 74 Standards. _________________ Glenn 74 Beetle Specs | 74 Beetle Restoration | 2180cc Engine "You may not get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get"

The engine looks correct except for the 009 distributor, air cleaner and missing EGR. _________________ Glenn 74 Beetle Specs | 74 Beetle Restoration | 2180cc Engine "You may not get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get"

I have the stock air cleaner and stuff in my trunk. In my "spare parts" collection that includes all the "important things" to have in your bug. I still haven't decided on what exactly my plan is with Bob. Going to keep it mostly stock, just unsure beyond that.

Including carb adapter?
Yup... I missed the H30/31 carb... it should be a 34PICT-3.
All i can say is, "slow and easy". Take you time and come up with a plan. It will save you money in the long run. _________________ Glenn 74 Beetle Specs | 74 Beetle Restoration | 2180cc Engine "You may not get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get"

Solid looking ride.
Your crank case relief hose needs to go somewhere.I would find an oil bath air cleaner for him.
If you want to go back to the stock carb for your year, you really need to go with a vacuum advance dizzy but the 30/31 carb on there will work well with the 009 dizzy you have.

Haven't gone crazy with progress, it's cold out. Anyways. Started on the slow process of un fixing the Po's wiring fixes in the engine and then repairing them the correct way. Anyways, just decided to share a video of the engine running.

So, looking for some help here, not sure exactly what to do to repair this section. If its best to replace large portions of panel, its beyond my skill level and I'll need to get help. If its something i can do small patches on, I should be able to do it. Just a note. Not sure how far it has spread here, but the PO sprayed paint covering it making it hard to tell, but I can start to poke thru some with a screwdriver.

i dont know why the owners manual says red. in the trunk i see the original color is marina blue. either that is not the original manual or someone is colorblind.

I agree about the blue color. As I sand away some paint away to repair some damage, I see the blue color and gray primer with no trace of red. My guess is either someone striped and repainted, or the manual is wrong. Either way, the white is growing on me. _________________ -Patrick- | 1974 Standard Beetle "Bob" | 1976 Westy "Fozzie" |Vintage VDubz Club
