She got a Great reception and alot of
"whats that?...is that a vw" as i drove in the parking lot

i had to repeat my self about her maybe 20 times or so but we VWers love that

i think quite fitting ya know
first 4 door and all
Im pretty damn sure that who ever designed the Panamera
either owned a 411 in the past or wanted to
its really uncanny

i know its more of a 911 stretched
but you really cant deny the similarity
right down to the little 3rd side window...mwaaaa aaaa aaaa
including (1st of its kind for VW and Porsche)

Those are great pictures. I am hoping that in 2011 I will have my 412 mobile so I can take it to a few local shows. I don't know of anyone in the local club that even owns a Type 4.

Why did you ditch the Riviera's in the front? Did you have ball joint or tire interference issues?

I didn't see anything about your hood, did it fly up while you were driving? Bummer if it did- especially if the windshield is broken.

I've got a great hood from a '72 411 wagon but I doubt you would like the shipping cost from Canada.

You can't get windshields anymore?

I think that Albert in Canada had a line on some repro glass a while back or glass that was from something else but virtually identical.

I can kick myself for not buying the new front windshield I had access to in 2001 from a wholesaler that supplied the Safelite chain. They sent me an NOS rear window for my 412 in the box...for $125 plus shipping....yes...with a brand new defroster grid.

They had an NOS front windshield in the box with factory top tint for $125 also. I kept waiting and stalling. They got bought and disappaeared. Ray

I don't think any new windshields are being made on a production basis. As of a few years ago at least, you could get one made on order from a company I believe was called "Origlass" in Italy for about $800 IIRC. Otherwise, used and remaining NOS are it. Many of the remaining used windshields have hazing in the bottom corners. I had a few extra ones that got broken during a move, unfortunately, but they were extremely foggy at the bottom, so I don't feel quite so bad. Still, I would have liked to have had them for the worst case scenario.

Well that means I have one extra good windshield in my '74 parts car then. It's a little milky around the bottom corners but not really noticable. The windshield in the '72 has a hole in it and it was claimed that this was the reason they had to stop driving the car (couldn't find a replacement).

here in Holland they are (again) available from a carglass company.
I believe they were produced on request and cost about 400 euro (550 dollar).
Only shipping costs will double it, I guess... Crying or Very sad

This is a brilliant, and very ballsy to draw the comparison in a photo: the 411 got the story to go along with its name... four doors, eleven years too late. The Panamerica is Porsche's 411.

And neither will win any design awards!

Today I was by my aircooled VW supplier and I told them a story of a Dutch 412 with a porsche 911 dashboard. The first reaction was: did he want a panamera? Very Happy
