I'm very poor, and the paint on my 65 bug is oxidizing and just wipes off the roof w/your finger...
I plan on getting a good paintjob next spring for the car.. but for now I would just like it to be all one color... I am going to sand down the few light surface rust spots and strip the roof as thats the place where its oxidizing ... I bought rust preventive primer and I'm going to spray the whole car... has anybody done this???? I have to be this cheap b/c of my current funds situation.. will this keep rust at bay??? any tips would help greatly..

thanks

if the rust isn't that bad just sand down the bad spots and primer over with a few coats. its a cheap temporary fix

In general, most primer will not even slow down new rusting. If rattle cans are an economic necessity, buy some cans of a color also.

primer won't block water getting to your metal. if you are just going to prime, shoot it with primer then sealer. I don't really know where you could, or if you could, get some sealer in a spray can, but I'd find someone with a spray gun and buy a quart. Trust me.....you'll thank yourself in the long run. I shot my bug with sealer just to store it! it's for the better bro.
