Gas ... less spatter and you can control your arc easier. Less cleanup around the bead and less void in the bead (due to the flux deposits).

Oh, GAS all the way!! Wouldn't go back to flux for anything!!! Just does not feel like you got any penetration with flux. Gas you can feel the penetration and be much steadier IMO.. |

Gas, definitly!
If you didn't get a bottle with your rig, don't be tempted to buy a little one. 40 or 60 cu ft is a good starting place and a 125 is nice if you can accomodate it. Remember, most gas suppliers close by noon on Saturday and don't open 'till Monday morning. That can be a lot of lost hours when you run out of gas on Saturday afternoon. |

If you are welding a bridge...flux.
If it is a car you are welding ...gas. Straight CO2 gas is fairly cheap and not bad arc and spatter control...penetration is very nice. But CO2 and Argon mix is a really nice choice too.

Wholeheartedly agree ... CO2 / ARGON mix is plush ... works for mild steel and cro-moly (check with your gas supplier for proper percentages) ... your mig (with the proper gas and wire) can also weld aluminum ... takes some practice (a lot of practice before you do anything important).
