After wrecking my 65 back in 05' I decided to start fresh from the pan up. This was day 1 back on 06' sometime and as you can see if you look closely all there is, is the pan and a rusted ass master cylinder. Looking back on the whole project now i wish i had the pan powder coated.
Obviously the tranny is going to be mounted 1st. BTW its a Freeway Flyer and Im using urethane front mounts.
I never got to take any pix of the body before I put it on, or the front end. Eventually I found out the year of the body was in fact a 64. Here's a couple before and after shots of the interior though. Horrible Lighting I know.
Heres a few shots of the carpet I stuck in. Desperately needs to be redone but its in there for now. HAHA
My buddy choppin' up some angle iron to make new seat brackets.
Fire Bottle is a MUST!!!
Here's a shot of the exterior as we were doing the interior.
Engines in...
Doors...
Now for the fenders...
Porsche style headlights
Eventually the glass made it in and I half assed the harness (I was being dumb and impatient so it wasn't done correctly so it has to be re-done). Then it sat for a while because my license was suspended so i couldn't get it registered. then sat more when I was on deployment (Navy) then sat some more because I got married and had a couple kids.so after a couple of years outside the body picked up a fair mount of rust. Since the beginning this thing always had an intermittent fuel problem. So it was never on the road full time. When I finally decided to get back on the horse this is what I ended up driving.
I still had a fuel issue. Then as soon as i thought it was fixed, somehow a machine screw found its way into the motor and totally screwed me.
After the head was machined and I got a new jug and piston and began to slap everything back together. Even replaced the push tube gaskets after they leaked all over my garage.
Hose clamps are great make-shift piston ring compressors...
Then after about a week of troubleshooting the fuel problem I found a clog in the hard line and pushed it out with some steel cable.
Next I decided to take a crack at putting in a headliner and some sound deadener.
Mattress pad insulation! ...LOL its ok you can laugh...
If you havent noticed already my rear quarter panels were rusted out and cut so i finally scrounged up some $ to get some1 to weld it in. here's the process...
Now time to get the rest of the body tuned up a little...
I sanded down to bare metal, threw some stop rust all over the place... sanded down the excess then 2 coats primer and 2 coats paint... took about 40 rattle cans...
Oh yeah and I replaced a fender... rusted out headlight mounting section.
Now to untape and stick all the chrome and headlights back on.
After a long day in VB we finally make it home...
So this is pretty much where Im at for the moment. Im waiting on a new pedal roller and I need wider fenders. the pedal assembly should be back in by next week and im not sure when i can get the fenders but ill keep u guys updated as more things pop up ( bcuz we all know they do). _________________ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vintage-VDubz/158714140852567

Keep those fenders.
Get a narrowed beam if you like those rims.
But thats just my opinion. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Screw pedestrians, they deserve to get gored if they get in our way. If they were kewl they'd be driving a bitching bug instead of walking. |

It may not have been a bad idea to coat that interior portion of your quarter panel welds.. Moisture could get in there and start your rotting from the inside out again.. Also, take your panels back off and fix your headliner while you have it that far apart. Quit half-assing it man!!! _________________ '62 VW Bug Sedan (Ruby Red)

lol yeah man I got tired of hitting dead ends last night that needed parts so I just threw them on to make me feel good lol. I did however coat the inner welds with a spray protectant. Its clear so I saw no point in taking a pix. Ill fix the headliner issues as I still need to take those panels off to mount speakers and install the remaining 2 spikes on either sides of the exterior.... _________________ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vintage-VDubz/158714140852567
