I have a '63 pan that has been converted to IRS rear(building a fiberglass dune buggy), and want to run reinforced stock IRS trailing arms. The reason for stock arms, is that I want to retain the original shock mount location on the arm itself. I have seen the weld-on plate beef-up kits for stock trailing arms, but was wondering if anyone knew if the stock shock mounts need to be removed if you use this kit. Also would the arm interfere with the rear shock tower on this early pan(I hear that the bigger aftermarket boxed arms will)? Maybe it's pointless to reinforce a stock arm if you dont reinforce the shock mount? I have no clue.

The beef up kit normally would relocate the lower shock mount to the top of the arm, on the newly plated section. However, if you are creative you can still use the lower mount. Here is a pic of Mike Adams' car. It's tough to see but you can see in the pic where the rounded out section of the arm is where the shock goes.

There is/was a tube kit for sale (can't remember where), however should be relatively easy to do yourself, or at least to get more ideas...

I am sure you could also make the plated kit work out fine with a little modification.

Brandwood cars in Phoenix beefed up my stock arms so that I could retain the stock shock location. I really like them.
