Picked this up from a nice gentleman about an hour away from me. Far as I know, It's been sitting since the late 70's maybe early 80's. Looks to be the original motor which still turns over nicely. Has the original crank handle and everything! Very solid bus. The driver's side rocker panel is rusted out on the inner and outer panel, and the passenger's side rocker has some rust also. That is pretty much it for the whole thing. It's amazing. There are a few dents that I think with a little work, could be brought back out. There are some bullet holes in it too. All Character Wink

don't know exactly, but yeah, something along those lines. They're more prominent on the passenger side then the driver's side. I also think there is something across the back. I might do a little rubbing on it to see if I can get them to show up a little better. any recommendations on what to use? wet sand paper grit, anything?

it's super rust free. When I get a chance, I'll get some pictures from up underneath. There's a couple of spots, but nothing major to worry about.

Don't use sand paper it will remove too much paint. Trying using oven cleaner, if that doesn't work, try lacquer thinner, if that doesn't work try something more aggressive like paint stripper. The idea is to start cautiously on an area that is less visible or will need to be cut out anyway and when you get the right mix of material and time then attack the rest of the bus.

Well, clearly that poor bus has spent too much of it's life in the frozen tundra. Might I suggest sending it South for some much deserved sunny, warm weather? My concern is mearly for the bus. Smile

Was the signwriting originally on top of the touquise paint, and has since been rubbed / weathered off?
Is there any dove blue under the tourquise? or was this a primer delivered bus?
If the original writing has weathered off the suface of the bus, your only hope of seeing it again will be to remove some of the remaining paint around the edges of where the letters were.
The theory is that the paint under where the letters where is thicker that the paint around it, having being protected by the letters for years before the letters actually dissapeared. you may only be left with primer around the letters when you are done, but it still looks cool when done.
I would suggest using a fine wet sandpaper as it gives you ultimate control of how much material you remove. if you spray on stove cleaner, or apply stripper it could remove more than you want, and may not discriminate between overspray and signwriting.

Here is an example of a bus where the writing had weathered off the original paint, and was recovered by sanding around the letters:

Well done, Joel. That area was once my old stomping grounds as a delivery guy and deer hunter. Guess I missed it. Wink

Looking forward to more pics and details. Any history from the PO? Where did he get it? Any location on the logos?

P.S. Is your inbox full yet?

That Panel is such a nice find ! OMG....incredible ! Good luck with the resto and enjoy this clean bus. I love the whitewalled Firestones pie-crusts btw. Most beautifull tire ever come out of the mold. Hope it can be saved for wall art. Wink
