| I had a lady ask me if I knew of any other old beetles for sale around town, because her daughter just got her license. She said she doesn't trust new cars to keep her daughter safe, and says the old beetles have a reputation for safety. I just kind of stared at her blankly for a few seconds... |

at Litchfeild sunday in refrence to my dad's '56:
Guy: "I love everything about it, but I wouldn't have done the radio"
My dad: "... what?"
guy: "The aftermarket radio, I wouldn't have put that it... these things never came with radios"... "my oval has a plate on the dash"
My dad: "If you couldn't get radios, why the hell do you think they put a radio delete plate on the dash?"
The guy was referencing the 100% original Motorola "big M" radio that's resided in the car since it was sold at the dealership back in 1956. _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

I had to laugh. The other day I was at the local supermarket, walking back to my bug. A gentleman was trying to load his three kids into his white ford expedition. All the kids wanted to do was look at the bug (and it isn't even that pretty). So Dad finally got the kids loaded up and went to the back to load his groceries. In slow motion, the passenger door opens and a little girl, maybe 6 years old, sneaks out of the expedition, runs over to the bug, and touches the fender before seeing me and scurrying back to her car. The Dad was watching this the whole time. The look on his face was priceless as he got in his suv and tried to get the kids back into their seats while trying to keep his composure. I couldn't help it and tooted the horn as I backed out to the kids now hanging out the window and waving. _________________ My Build Page |

I picked up my pizza at the drive thru window at Papa Murphys, the 18 or so year old at the window asked, "what kind of car is that?" I said, "69 VW squareback". He said, "Whoa, that's BADASS!" There is still some hope for the new generation! _________________ Zero to Sixty by next Tuesday

Love this thread... brings back some memories! Like this one.... The early 90s, I got ahold of my sisters 74 orange westie. Pretty nice bus but with some major wiring issues. I decided to lower it, (I had never tried a bus) and got it done with 4" out of the front and about 3 1/2" in the back. Looked great, was lovin' it. So I follow a friend of mine to the shop to drop off his old diesel Mercedes, and the old german guy that ran the shop, during the conversation about the Mercedes, kept glancing over at my bus. He finally couldn't take it anymore, and said to me, "Vat is vrong vish your shpringsh?" I told him I lowered it, and he gave me a look like I had just set his cat on fire, turned around shaking his head and wouldn't talk to me anymore. We left, and the Mercedes went home a week later... _________________ Zero to Sixty by next Tuesday

Wow, I didn't know Volvo ever made a 2 door wagon! (after walking around the back where the Volkswagen emblem is clearly visible). _________________ Zero to Sixty by next Tuesday

I've owned my 56 oval since 2002 and constantly get asked what year it is. The kicker was in 2003 when the VW Beetle was in the news for nearing the end of its production. I'm sitting at a traffic light and some guy in a wrecker asked "Is that one of those Mexican Beetles?" Had no idea what to say, so just said, "no its a 56." |

Drove our 67 Beetle to my wifes softball game. After the game, a family walks up, actually the Dad has been asking me about where to find a "Bug" cheap a few times at earlier games. (good luck with that)
Anyway his daughter (about 10) walks up and asks "can I look in it".
I said "Sure hop in nothing bites".
Before she did I reached in an poped the hood.,
She said "Oh WOW COOL it pops up just like in the movie......"
I said yep.... just like the movie. _________________ aka Ken

I think the next time i hear one about there not being a radiator I'll tell them its not needed. The gas is up front and it gets cooled before it goes to the engine. _________________ 67 Beetle - Amy {RIP, gone but not forgotten}

Me: no thanks, I don't have a radiator
autozone cashier: ***long pause*** you have a car right? It has a radiator
Me: no, it really doesn't, I would know.
autozone cashier: Hey tommy, this guy thinks his car doesn't have a radiator.....
Tommy (clerk in back): It's probably a volkswagen
autozone cashier: stops laughing, "is it a volkswagen?"

We have serviced stations this side of the world and the younger attendants are usually confused as all hell when I tell them the cars don't use water.
Once or twice I've been distracted [with the pre-'68 bugs) and have had to avoid a catastrophe with them wanting to fill the tank up front with water.
*sigh* Breeding should be a licensed activity. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating by a restless itinerant in search of enlightment. |
