check air pressure from your gun or the materials exiting. you might need to adjust. also try reducing the paint.

You discribed your orange peel as broad, by this do you mean there is a void between the droplets of primer as the surface builds ? If so, this sounds like more like contamination. What are you useing for surface prep work ? One very common problem other than not using the correct solvent is that you should never use anything more than a lightly damp cloth of your prep solvent on a small area and then use a second cloth to wipe the area until dry. If you use a rag wet with solvent the surface will soak up the solvent causing adhesion problems later. Also if it is not wiped until dry anything that would otherwise be removed will not be. So the act becomes useless, as well allowing the solvent to air dry gives more time in which the surface could soak up the solvent. Lacquer thinners or acetone will also break down any fillers, paint or primer on the surface you are working on causeing problems later...

I love orange peel. At least small spots, cuz it's so satisfying when you get it out.

Here's what I do:

1) 1200 grit, wet, then dry it off after a little bit so you can see the remaining orange peels that remain in the haze.

2) Follow up with 1500 grit, wet, and dry it off, repeating until it's totally smooth.

3) Buy some Mequiar's Mirror Glaze and buff it out either by hand(not too tedious, as the haze buffs out pretty damn quick) or use the #9 on a 6" Mequiar's Soft Buff buffer at about 1000 rpms.

It will give you an incredible mirror shine and will feel like satiny heaven. But watch out, you will find yourself going tee shirt crazy when you notice that even the smallest fingerprint staring at you.

Good Luck.

Check you gun,is it clean and also application, hows your overlap and distance? What about the correct air presure. To low results in orange peel. Solvent selections, to fast it will not flow,to slow runs and heave orange peel. What about gun adjustment? To much fluid results in orange peel. What size is fluid tip and head? For primer it should 1.4 to 1.8. There are many factors that can cause orange peel,so I would start with some of these.

Also check ambient air temp. Shoot for shooting in 77 degrees, or whatever the manufacturer suggests.

Yep, real orange peel is caused by poor application, or I suppose it could be from not mixing properly. How far are you from the panel when you spray? Try different techniques on some spare metal if you have it, or some masonite(fiber board from Home Depot, like 6 bux for a 4x8 sheet).

But, as others have said is it could be contamination which causes "fisheyes". Are they big rings, like the size of small Spaghetti-Os? If thats the case, you either didnt clean the surface as good as you should, or you got some oil getting into your air supply.
