Bill-
I will be passing through Lexington sometime Thursday afternoon; not sure what time exactly. I'll be stopping in Dayton, OH to spend a couple hours at the Air Force Museum (one of my favorite museums), then I hope to stop for the night somewhere in Tennessee. You'll probably pass me on Friday.
No trailer for me; mine is more of a driver. I'll be in a green Thing with Michigan plates.
I did clean the windshield in preparation for the trip.
Have a safe trip, Mondshine |

Hey guys! Well, I think other than putting on my plates and cleaning her up, I'm finally ready to come We're not sure if we are going down to Pigeon Forge for a while Fri and then starting for GA early Sat morning, or if we'll have to make the whole drive early Sat. morning. I'll be trailering since I've not had much of a chance to shake her down. I'm still not sure about the Sun. morning cruise. I'm really wanting to go, but I'm not sure this is the time to find my weak spots |

Ok guys, well I will be coming for sure. My mom has to have a procedure on Tues, but I'm going to be able to slip away for the weekend. I hope to leave tomorrow, if I can get this carb and shifter thing worked out. My new carb is now leaking gas from around the gasket where the top of the carb fits I just got home, put the old washer back on the old carb that I rebuilt and filled the bowl with gas. So far, no leaks now. I'm going to get up early tomorrow and try it again and see if it works. It actually ran much better than the new one. I'm surprised considering it was my first carb rebuild Hope to head out tomorrow afternoon. I don't have reservations for tomorrow night, but hopefully can get a room at the Ramada or somewhere close by. See you in GA!! |

| Thanks Joe. I honestly think the People's choice award is by far the most awesome award I've ever gotten anywhere with any car! I wasn't expecting that and was completely blown away. It means so much coming from my thing friends and family. It seemed very much more like a family gathering than a car show. I don't know about everyone else, but VW folks are truly the nicest people to be around, especially in comparison to all make shows. Thanks for thinking of Mom, she had some tests done today and continues to feel pretty rough. Please keep her in your prayers. On a positive note, I'm already looking forward to seeing everyone again next year. I ran into many people that I met at Kubel Treffen in Bardstown and it seemed like we were just old friends who hadn't seen each other in a few days. |

Congrats...i would like to see some photos of it completed.I like the
mods you did.I am in planning stages on a Thing build also.Like the bus tail lights, no gas filler neck etc.But mine will be on the low stance look.

Dell,
This is awesome! Your Thing is a Nice one for sure, and the fact that you did a lot of the work(most of?) yourself is even better!
Glad ya'll made it safe in both directions, and I appreciate meeting you Friday.
You get any ideas on that window angle from anyone there?
Again, Congrats!! _________________ FORWARD: forward is only a good thing, when you're facing the right direction!

| Hey Joe, Yeah, I talked with Larry from the Thing Shop and he helped me with the frame. I found out if you bend the middle bow back, it actually will allow the frame to move further forward. I was tickled because he looked at the frame and thought it was one of his. I did a lot of work straightening it and making reinforcements. I took that as a big complement. How are the side windows working out? Get a chance to check on having the flaps put on the outside? T. we'll definitely keep in touch. I really enjoyed meeting you and getting to talk. I'll try to post some pics of it finished soon. Thanks for all of the complements guys! I hope to see many of you again soon. |
