Been awhile since I was around Type 1 engines and my original Thing never had any overheating problems so I remained blissfully ignorant of such things. On my present Thing it seems the fan shroud runs much hotter than it should, around 140-150°F. All seals and gaskets are in place around the engine compartment and are in good condition. I know that on my Type 4 powered bus the fan shroud barely gets above ambient, but on the Thing it is quite hot in comparison. The block temperature seems normal, with an IR guns showing 190° F when pointed at the side of the block below the generator tower.
How hot do other peoples' fan shrouds run? If mine is hotter than normal, what is the likely cause? |

Thanks, it sounds like mine is running hotter than others. My shroud has the added velocity ring. I have wondered whether it might actually cause restricted flow as there is little space left between the velocity ring and the front of the engine compartment. I think I will try and locate a different shroud and give it a try. |
