Okay, I have good sized area of rust in my bug that I need to fix. I wondering if they sell a repair panel for this area?

Here is the picture of the area

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I own a 69 Beetle Sedan. A buddy and I are going to start on the body work in November I'm sure he can come up with something to fix this area but I was wondering if there was a sheet metal replacement piece already made for this area

What is the"Lower A - Pillar" I'm not sure if this is what I need

Thanks for any help

Thats a lower hinge post or hinge pillar or door post or whatever.... Anyway, there is a replacement for that part. This link is one of the many places that sell it.

I've done the repair on a 66 and it's really not that bad. I would pull that carpet back and try to poke the side of the heater channel with a screwdrive. Like I said, I will bet that you will find that you will be able to push that screwdrive through the channel in a few places... better to repair all the rust then to ignore what you can see...

I wish you the best with it...

thanks for the advice.. I have no problem replacing the heater channels if they are bad as well.. I'll poke at them this weekend see what I can find .. last time I had that crapy carpet out I looked around down there and couldn't find anything but your right I may have some rusted out areas... how much work is it to cut out the heater channels and put new ones in..

I did my 66, and its quite a bit of work, but its not as bad as some would say. It is however serious structural work to your car. It took me about 3 ten hour days to complete the channel, A pilar, and lower wheel well wall
my A pilar looked about the same as yours does... that the only reason I say its worth the investigation...

If I can be of any service let me know...

Ok, for some reason the connection is super slow ass and I can't get the pic.
But, it seems that you guys are talking lower A Pillar. Just wanted to add a bit of advice. When ordering this piece, buy it local if possible. Some places just sell it as a cap, what you see from the outside. Others sell it as a complete peice, with the mounting plate for the door hing included. THAT is the one you want, as the mounting plate holders are probably gone too, and its not worth the 2 or 3 dollar difference between the two replacement styles to justify screwing with fabbing your own. If you mail order it, talk to them and make sure it comes with the plate.

thats what you need, with assembly. I would if I were you, which I did on mine was to put some extra welds on the hinge monts on the inside of that piece. the factory spot welds were not adequit. It doesnt hurt to strengthen it up. you wouldnt want to open that thing up again to reweld that mount...

here's the Photos Of what I got...

Now doesn't that look like the "skin" and not the Assembly

So I asked them what the difference between the $9.00 Skin and the
$24.50 or so Assembly that I ordered.

Still awaiting a reply. . .
What do you gusy think?

Here's the reply I recieved from [email protected]

<<
Jeremy,

The hinge is a separate part as well as the mounting plate. I will have our webmaster clarify this on our website.
>>

what a bunch of Crap eh? Should I raise a fuss or just get them to take this part back for a refund? is what I paid for worth the $24.50 or do you think that I should have gotten more (the Mnt. Plate)

I really feel ripped off, the website Clearly States "55-79 Door Post Bottom, 5" WITH HINGE ASSEMBLY. LEFT." I'm not thinking that this comes with the hinge assembly, and their reply was "The hinge is a separate part as well as the mounting plate. I will have our webmaster clarify this on our website." Well, then what the heck did I pay $24.50 for.. when the "SKIN" was only $9.00???

I just got the Invoice in the snail-mail today it also says "WITH HINGE ASSEMBLY" does that not sound like I'm going to get some kind of hinge assembly!!! ... I send them a picture of what I received in the mail and asked them if this is what they call the Door post (with hinge assembly) or if they are just looking to rip people off. If they reply with .. yes that is the correct part I'm going to reply with I want my money back and your paying for shipping and you can have your 5" door post with hinge assembly and I'll go buy it some place else

To bad you got taken but it looks like that peice will work for you. Dont replace the entire hinge if you dont have too. Its nice to have the hinge there to help line up the new door posts.
