Hey Folks, I’ve been collecting VW toys since 1989 and I have a few thousand in my collection. Mainly newer stuff, like Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Johnny Lightning, Maisto and Jada, but I do have some old stuff as well. Below are 2 of my older rare items. They are from a car show in Germany that my father attended in the 1950’s. They are puzzle key chains that are a little over 2 inches long. The first 1 has solid black plastic axels and wheels while second 1 ha a metal axel with grey plastic wheels. They are both marked “VOLKSWAGEN” on the bottom and the last pictures show the only other markings on them. Has anyone ever seen them before or know anything about them? I can’t find out anything else about them so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

I also have a large toy collection and i am a model maker so i have made my own variations of vw's over the years.
here's what i'm working on at the moment...
...it's a 1/18 split bug thats been abandoned in a lake for many years.
this one is nearly finished and there are 3 more scenes being worked on as well.
heres some of my collection (not all VW)
and another 1:18 diorama
Tons more pics available on request |
Bad ass. I'd love to have one of your model scenes to display in my house. I like the fish in the water too. Post more pics... |

You did a great job with that!! I really like the extra details.

and what its worth. | It's an Eko car, made in Spain. It's a copy of the old 1/87 Wiking, and can still be found new in the package at Buffalo Road Imports for around $7.

I don't have much to offer on who made them, except to acknowledge the obvious: They're old and made in Germany. It looks like the second one may have had broken/missing wheels and the the wheels and axles were replaced with those from a mid-'60s 1/87 Wiking. |

Thanks Blue Baron, but my dad says that he got them new at the car show and that one had black wheels and the other came with grey wheels. Both of the cars look the same except for the wheels. Has anybody else every seen these? _________________ '66 Standard WT

| I'm not questioning your dad's memory (it was 45 years ago), but the gray plastic wheels with metal axles are from a Wiking toy, circa 1965. Wikings were VW dealer promos, so some parts could have gotten switched over the years. |

After looking at the photos again, I realized I had one of these, still in the wrapper with the keychain. It looks identical.
Here's the German manufacturer. I think the name loses something in the translation ...
I can already see the jokes flying. |

WOW! That's awesome Blue Baron and I think you're right; the name looses something in the translation. But, that explains why these were always a bitch to put together. Also, this aught to be fun seeing what the search engines pull up using the manufactures name and the word toy. Anyway, thanks for the information and do you know anything else about yours beside the obvious? When, where and how did you get it? _________________ '66 Standard WT

I've been thinning out my toy collection and have this one that I've been contemplating whether or not to get rid of. I remember buying this bus back in the days of the SOTO meets. I remember paying a good amount for it back then (for a toy atleast)
Anyone have any info on this besides that its a 10th aniversary limited edtion SOTO bus. How about value?

Anyone recognize this? I'm have zero expectations that it's anything special, fairly obvious, but am nonetheless curious. It was picked up by someone that knows I like VWs, and I'm just curious if it's a "known", or some 7-11 POS from the 90s.

|
|
I want to start a small collection of Oval wndow toys that are L331 Horizon Blue and or close light blue colors.
What companies made such toys in the 1955 to 1965 era?
And are there any modern toys of high quality that also feature Horizon Blue or near looking colors in a realistic looking Oval Window Toy?
I know Märklin did in the 8000 series (my favorite) and also Ingap of Italy and I'be sure that Wiking also did a car in this color in their 1/40 series, but what other classic toy companies? Gorgi? CNJ? Tekno? Lego?
Can anyone be of assistance or let me know who could put me in the right direction?
Thanks

It's a common '90s Corgi model done up as a S.O.T.O. comemmorative. The Corgi is worth around $12-$15, and whatever extra value it has depends on how much someone wants a S.O.T.O. premium. |

7-11 POS from the '90s is probably a good description. It's worth about a buck. |
