that's the most intriguing yet but still looks overbuilt for the driving I do. Can't someone PLEASE make a low profile option that I can stand on without bending and can take a semi-slow speed bump with a tree while parking (after a cocktail perhaps), yet still look unobtrusive and sleek? Here's a homemade version that I kinda like but it could be about 3 inches taller in the vertical plane (but I can't weld). Close to RMW but still a bit different.

That bumper is sick. Makes me glad i haven't gotten a bumper yet! If i buy a new bumper something like this is what i am shooting for!!!! I just wana know if it'll be to pricey for me to justify getting it. |

So are they doing a matching back bumper too? I looked through the Bostig website last night and all I saw was reference to the front one.

In the video I think there were some glimpses to a rear one (might be wrong, saw it very fast 2 days ago)
I have the rear RMW Twin Peaks bumper, no complain at all, but still have the original one on front - somehow, i've been holding on putting a RMW Twin Peaks on front, I think it's too big.
I truly like the looks of the Bostig one in the front (some similarities to the ARB bumpers) and is seems to have better clearance than the RMW. I added my name to the list of interested people in Bostig's website, hopefully it will be priced competitively with the RMW. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

The main advantage I see to the Bostig bumper is the bracing for the "roo" bars is better.
I like my RMW bumper, but the roo bars are not real solid.
I bought this setup after having a run in with a deer:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5421865&highlight=#5421865
I had a stock vanagon bumper on her when we hit the deer.
Price for the whole setup was about $750. _________________ Currently:

those aren't "Roo bars" they're "Brush Garuds" designed to keep low branches from tangling & scratching your front end. not keeping out a hopping marsupial or bovine or deer.. what ever family they're in?
mostly employed to protect against bicycles & shopping carts on most suburban driven vehicles.

so on a second reading I think they are referring to the list of goals below
the quote i am referring to:
"The NFB has a number of design goals that we started with 6 months ago and wanted but didn't find in the right combination in the existing market: "
sorry misinterpreted the statement I think

Now i can't wait to see this bumper kit!!!! _________________ 1987 2WD GL Automatic

The Bostig NFB bumpers are "out"! ...
http://tinyurl.com/7kw38gq
I'm pretty excited by the bumper, while the approach is pretty a-typical.. I love the DIY approach. I've never done any welding, but I'd like to and this seems like a really fun project.
I just plunked my $20 on the table to get in on the buy-in. Hopefully more people will soon, so it can go into production.[/url] _________________ == My Rides ==

Although I have been patiently awaiting the release of the bumper, I am disappointed at the final product. I have absolutely no interest in the upper bar, but pricing is inclusive of this bar whether you use it or not.
Being local for me, I really wanted to like this. Also like the idea of the kit, so that I can have pieces modified prior to building.
Going to have to think this one over. _________________ Its a mistress; an expensive, whiney, needy bitch of a mistress. I wonder if they have any plans to do a matching rear bumper. I still haven't decided if I like the look of it, but I do know it looks strange not having a rear to balance things out. Plus, the rear of the Vanagon is not nearly as strong as the front. A sturdy rear bumper would be a real plus.
I am impressed by the cleverness of the construction as well as the innovative and well-thought out approach to lining up buyers for the production run.

From the Bostig website:
It'll depend on the success or failure of the front. If we can produce the front we'll offer a rear as well. So if you get in on the front bumper and end up with one, a rear will be on the way as well. In addition the rear's design will be partly driven by the buyers of the front (voting etc on features and design).

I watched the Bostig vids last night.
Amazing tollerences have been achieved on the parts made to produce these bumpers.
Awesome work guys
