Hello,

I´m looking for a design for a trike to build and i have found this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYRXkUeDBeM&feature=player_embedded

I like the way it looks with the engine mounted in this direction but im afraid it will overhat. The engine is been runned without the dog house and the cooling tins.

I live in dominican republic and the tempreture is near 85 degrees Fahrenheit most of the year.

What´s your expert opinion?

Looks really nice but I can't see that engine lasting very long.

BMW boxer style engines are mounted the same way (to be fair, they are only two cylinder, though). I've seen quite a few motorcycle engines run that way in the front of 2F1R bikes with no issues, I can't see any reason why a VW couldn't be run the same way. It all relies on the airflow over the heads... if you can figure a cooling "scoop" to put on top of the heads to force the air over the rearmost cylinders and rig up an oil cooler so it's in the airstream, there probably wouldn't be too many issues... as long as you're moving. Put a nice big fan over the oil cooler...
