My yellow 63 came with a nice red interior. great shape, but I don't like the red with the yellow, so I am changing it out for a black interior. I did the cargo seat, and am now trying to get up my courage to try the front. Anyone have advice for a nice way to finish the backs of the low seats? The pressboard piece on my passenger door tore through at the bolts, and new pressboard didn't come with the interior kit I got. Thoughts? Experience? here are some pix of the before and after.

I recently did the seats in my 71. Used the old board as a template and cut a new one out of mdf.

1/4"plywood is what i use. It is less affected by moisture and holds staples and fasteners better.

I would think that the red interior with the yellow paint on the exterior would be an eye catcher...i think if the dash, steering column, door panels, etc... were red that would seem to me to be a great color combination. Do you have the old pics?

Black loop carpet. Haven't installed it yet--peeking under the old may lead me to believe that I need to patch or replace the floor panels. Black headliner, and I really like my new black interior. The headliner and interior is black now, and I need to patch and re-do my dash, and then I want to paint it yellow and install my new dash cover. The red was nice when the car was white (discovered that when I removed the old back seat). Someone painted it yellow--low quality paint job, but this is a daily driver. People stop me on the street to tell me how great my car is. Love my little spark of sunshine!

i have a 71 coup and i was wondering if the seat upholstery or door panel kits has the vinyl around the back seat or the vertical pieces by the doors.

How did the seat backs come out? Did you use the original clips that VW used or some other method for attaching the back to the seat?
