Really thorough work on the pan and engine so far!
It appears that you have a 1200cc 40hp engine, judging by the horizontal surface of the intake manifold attachment flange on the top of the head. How were the insides of the case- could you reuse the crank and cam? Are you building up the engine stock, other than the cosmetics? Converting the car to 12V?
Is that a BMW 320d daily driver? |

hay, ye it is ment to be a 40hp engine but id say 34hp????????. it was a full rebiuld. a garge down the road done the case and every thing inside for me as i wasnt to shore how to do it. inside was good but very gungy. im going to keep it 6v for now. when i get a big engine all swap it to 12v them. or thats the plan
yep shore is bmw e90 320d m-sport. also have and alfa sud. and v8 kit car. |

Alfasud? Does it still have the Dell'Orto dual-throat downdraft carbs on it? If so, those are the DRLA which are very popular for hi-po VWs.
The 1200cc engine was rated as 40hp using the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) rating method for the US market. In most other places in the world it was rated as 34hp per the DIN specifications or other local methods. So we're talking about the same engine. Hope it goes as well as it looks for you!
Even with diesel-engined automobiles being so prevalent in Europe, the US auto industry hardly has any. VW and Audi's 4-cyl. turbo for many years intermittently, and since 2009 model year, BMW's 335d with the 3-liter straight 6 and small+large turbo setup. It was BMW's first diesel in the US market since ~1986. The 335d was passively marketed as the "performance diesel"; its performance and driveability certainly convinces skeptics here. |

ye still has the carbs on it. sounds sweet. hard to set the up togeter tho. going to get a set for the bug when i get the bigger engine.
i hope it gose well haha its been a pain to clean up. ill put the 1st start on you tube.
the bmw is ok for family use but no joy on any kind of speed. before the baby came we had a bmw e46 m3 that was 3.2 400bhp . now that was a car |

Hey, great work!
I just thought about keeping it close to stock condition on the outside with a lowered front. The colour is chinchilla, right? I like it and Standard models like yours were often used by local and tax authorities in Germany, so they have a very special and "austere" look to me. How surprising would it be to open the decklid and see your funky looking engine! |

I noticed in the third photo down on page 3, your oil baffle gasket under your generator stand is upside down. The louvers need to point downward. It helps keep the oil spray from blow by and from the internal moving parts inside the crankcase and not up and out through your breather tube.
