Anybody heard of these ??
I think it was a kit in the late 70's, only about 150 made.
Any pictures or information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

There was a page in a book I read. It had a couple pictures.
It was basically a sandrail with a removeable fiberglass body.
The book was "Dune Buggy Handbook" by James Hale.
If I can find it I'll scan the page for you. _________________ SOME MORNINGS IT'S JUST NOT

"Stripper" seems a misnomer for a car that has more covering on it than a "regular" buggy. I could see how you could make a cool car out of one of those...and you would never see another one sharing your road. |

That was something that Chuck Beck came up with before moving on to the Porsche Spyder 550 kit.
I sure that Gil George (Funco Motorsports) made the chassis for them. They go way back to early 1960s, both working for Gary Hooker (Hooker Headers) and the starting Funco off road racing chassis.
Gil George had a Stripper in his shop off to one side in Cucamonga (this was before Rancho Cucamonga) close to Vineyard off of 9th st. This was in 1977.
Gil told me that it was project that his his Dad and him would work on when his dad came out to visit from where he lived back east.
I think it was sliver metalflake.
Looked like a neat idea. It also had an inner fiberglass tub cockpit area inside the steel tube frame.
Did Jim own the white one in the pictures? _________________ Joseph

I think Jim has sold most of his collection. Last time I was down there in April he had a SR that Ken had owned and the Lifeguards and Forest one left.
And one Corvair powered Baja. _________________ Joseph

That looks like the basis of Tamiya's Holiday Buggy R/C car.

Bill, I like your webpage, I'm glad someone has gone to the effort to track down and interview an original buggy manufacturer, there are fewer every year. I live in Dixon, I'll keep my eyes open for your Stripper. I believe Chuck spells his last name Beck.

At the end it says, "stay tuned for Part 2". I think it might not have been written when part 1 was posted |
