I just picked up this tool kit, it's not like the others I see in the classifieds and the gallery.

Anyone got info on it? The search starts for the missing tools and maybe replacement clips for the tools.

** please do not PM be about buying it, I will not respond, it's not for sale at this time. - thanks **

Most, well all, I have seen have been the grey color with flocking. This one is hammer tone silver and I will assume it's original since the sticker looks original. But still odd as to the layout and tool and parts selection. The wrench is an 8 13, open end Hazet.

it looks like a hazet clone designed to take the factory tool kit plus a few spares.
whatever it is it turns out to be it is super cool.

Maybe just the wrench is Mercedes and it found it's way in the kit one day.

V-10 is just the standard issue Hazet wrench, not VW or Porsche specific.

I have never seen that layout in a round tool box. Very cool but looks like a lot of wasted space in the box.

Does it have the Hazet patent info. stamped near the latch on the back side?

What was supposed to fit into the white piece to the right of the pressure gauge?

How about spark plug wires? Could it have held a set of them?

Friend of mine mentioned maybe a tune up kit? Less tools, more parts, maybe?

Last bit of info from the seller...

Quote:
My contact from whom I purchased this kit from seems to believe it was for Bugs, and was sold in the late 60's and early 70's. He did not have the MFG name unfortunatly. I hope this helps, as this was all I could get from him about it. FYI, I added all the tools in it.

Well, that would explain why it has spark plugs, but the spark plugs really bother me.

On every Hazet decal I've ever seen, the little drawing matches exactly what's in the kit. I mean, we're talking about Germans here, and Germans don't do random--if they drew three spark plugs, then the kit contained three spark plugs when it left the factory.

So why 3? I could see 1, that would be for emergencies in case one fouled. I could see 4, that would be enough for a tune-up, but 3? Three makes no sense and is very Un-German.
