Is the bell housing bolt pattern on the 1.8T the same as the old 1.8? like from the early 80s if it is a vanagon diesel bell housing will bolt on the trany making it a easy bolt up. the stock trany will not hold up for long but you can get a new trany from Weddle industries with a wide choice of gear ratios that will hold down the power. they are 091 tranys on steroids they are very nice top shelf but not cheep. _________________ where its cold and snowy |

Yup, the only potential problem with the vangon housing is the ~45 degree tilt. The mexican/brazilian housing maybe an option since it is more upright but I think they had a different bolt pattern, not sure.
edit: It doesnt look like the brazilian/mexican bellhousing will work.
but...

Yea, I know what you mean. Big inch glass breaking vibrations.
But it got old after a few decades. Now I get my enjoyment out of relatively stock Dubs. They are so fantastic because they require a much more wonderful lifestyle. They prompt (almost force) you to smell the roses that you never knew about or had forgotten about. I drive in the slow lane and feel so bad for most everyone else that are unaware of the beautiful aroma of the roses. There is a lot more to buses that isn't immediately recognizable. _________________ The best thing that anyone can do for their Bay is get the Volkswagen of America Official Service Manual published by Robert Bentley. Without it the bus is pretty much doomed.

not to mention if you run with a type 1 its cheeper. I work on the newer vws becouse I have to make a living and I tell you what the shit go's out of production fast like with in 5 years I can't get parts for some of that electric wizardry and just because you can plug it in doesn't mean it will tell you whats wrong with it at all. I work with guys fresh out of school that have no 101 skills at all they don't seem teach it anymore I guess if they can't plug it in and it don't tell them whats wrong there screwed these new breed I have been working with haven't got a clue. I guess Iam a dyeing breed a mechanic that fix's and rebuilds things not just replaces. _________________ where its cold and snowy |

Its really a question of convenience for me. The type 1 in HANK is reliable but underpowered, When I drive HANK he forces you to take your time and look around and its great, but the reality is I need to pull a trailer, I have kids and alot of gear when we go camping so thats why I am doing the swap. T4 stuff is expensive and again I want to pull a trailer and even with a perfectly tuned 2L like the new bus has its still going to tax the crap out of it. So the swap for a newish 2L turbo motor from a jetta...Jason and Kris are great builders, (heck you cant have the worlds fastest aircooled vw and not know a thing or two).
When Jason pulls out the current 2.0 and gives it the once over I'll post up the details...I know its got a new alternator and looks like the top end was rebuilt in 2009.
As for the jetta motor All I know at this point is they where building it for one of their customers sand cars when he went off the reservation...Again they are going to let me know about the management system ect when it comes time to start putting it together. Right now they are going to basically pull everything out and start figuring out where we are and what we might need from front to back. I know I am kind of vague but I have know vwp for a long time they are friends and I trust their judgement of what we should do.
Oh and the trailer, they have a 72 tin top camper that was wacked in the front and totalled by insurance. They are going to cut it Behind the slider and when all is done that will be the trailer, should be bitchen...
Here are a couple of more pics:

Looks Good! You should get a front nose tire holder and throw your spare up front.. makes for a lot more room in the back.. I know they can screw up a nose clip but sounds like you want to camp not win ribbons! Plus my Rivierias had one for ever and my nose is fine.. _________________ 73 Riviera Camper
