The poor fit of the Flat4 "Abarth" and their unwillingness to tackle their fit issue was the reason Stephane made his SS version. Stephane's version fits perfectly but as we all know some people are unwilling to commit to Stephane's erratic customer relations.

They are the only two options since Flat4 stopped making the ill-fitting mild steel version.

Okie Dookie! Thanks for the help John Smile

I guess that I'll go with Stephane's muffler, by the time it gets through the mail, I'm sure to have found a Judson by then, so it should be perfect timing!

I wish you good luck with the WOB muffler. For me it took over a year to get it. The looks and fit is fine. Remember to handle it with care, I have a loose tailpipe in mine.

Here's the internal structure and how it differs from the patent picture. Silencer area is narrower and the internal exhaust pipe arrangement is different. The changes might affect the flow:

Wow Skyto, that's a very nice set of plans there.....I wonder why no one bothers to make the muffler the correct original way, seems even the WOB muffler has alot of metal on the wrong places, seems if they were made right then there wouldn't be any restriction or back pressure problems? I don't know, I assume this, I'm not a muffler expert, I just think that they look and sound pretty dammm kool Very Happy

I bought my abarth from MR Wob and it only took a little over a month to get it and I live in the states. The exhaust is awesome, flows great and sounds like no other vw I've ever heard! It is well worth the money!

Click on the pic to start the video and you can hear the exhaust.

This exhaust by Mr. WOB is the version for later engines (1300-1600), here's my vid of the sound:

Link

I fitted the exhaust from the underside of the car, with the engine still attached. I'm not sure if it was the reason (it was a damn tight fit), but we actually had to cut about 1cm off from the lower pipes that attach to the heat exchangers for it to fit in Embarassed

So... the tailpipes propably appear a bit lower than they are meant to.

That's cool to hear, as i've followed your 62 RHD Vert build topic intensely and have especially admired the engine built for it. Awesome car...!

Did you modify 1300-1600 type for your 1200 engine ?

Thanks! I'm running 205/65/15's in the rear. The rear is down 2 outer splines and 1 inner, with notched and extended spring plates. Support rails are brand new WW rails. I scrape em here and there but not too often. I usually have my wife and daughter in the car and only really scrape going in and out of parking lots, just take it "low and slow" Laughing

Here is the video of it rolling down the street:

I've heard way more positive than negative. Sorry to hear that you weren't happy with it but I'm thrilled.

thats not bad if its just for the look then its an ok exhaust and i hope i am the only one were it not fittet right and had 3 leaks...but all of them are in the inner side just crap. the csp repro is way better i have seen the drawings how they reproduce them.
but hey i still use it;) because it was too much work to have it how it is now...LOL

sound is also cool. too loud but nice.

Are you talking about the Flat-4 reproduction on CSPs website or the WW reproduction on their site?

On fig.4 we see Mr.WOB's pipes have straight cut, original Abarth got angeled cut. That makes a difference in flow, because the straight cut makes a venturi effect that angeled cut dont. In this case the venturi effect makes less flow.
