|
|
Samba friends,
My wife and I just got back from visiting our family in Northern, GA. I was riding scooters with my father-in-law when we came across an old chicken house. There was an old VW in some overgrown brush visible from the street. After going in for a closer look, we learned that the chicken house had been converted to a barn.
We soon learned that there was more to the story. The barn was FILLED with VWs. Beetles, Ghias and some BMW 2002s! There was even a Ghia rotting away in the field right next to the barn! There seemed to be bumpers and a ton of other parts hanging in the rafters.
I'm now back in CA but want to investigate this more. My father-in-law is looking into who owns the land. We do know it's farmed but I think the barn has long been forgotten. From looking around, it seems the VWs have been sitting for at least 20 years.
Have others found things like this before? How did you deal with it? Again, it's sitting on farmland; no house around. It's in a rural part of North GA.
I want to be respect the owner of the land (whoever that is) and not get anyone arrested. At the same time, someone needs to save these cars!

Funny I just drove back home from Georgia myself....
Lots of potential, even if the Beetles appear to be mainly post 67 fat chicks.
Now the Ghias are a possibility.
It will probably end up being one of the typical East Coast stories.
"Were a gonna restore em"
Sadly....I usually end up watching the barn fall in on "em".
Get some decent parts that way sometimes. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

I'm almost 100% sure that they have been forgotten. I was only in the barn for a few moments. And yes, most were 68 and on. But, there were cars to the left side I did not even look at because they were under covers. Could be a split! Who knows.... Anyone in GA want to take a closer look and report back? _________________ Eric Shoemaker, Owner

We actually just located the info from tax records. I'm not sure the best way to go about this, as I don't want to break any laws. _________________ Eric Shoemaker, Owner

If anyone is interested enough to contact the land owners let me know. I'd be willing to pass on the info I have. There are parts there worth buying. I'm sure the land owners would let that stuff go for cheap, seeing that it's sat there for probably the last 20 years. _________________ Eric Shoemaker, Owner
