From time to time family members of my deceased clients will give me VW items that belonged to the deceased. This coin carrier is one such item. It is missing the small chain from what the donor stated.
In case you were wondering, no great deals on cars...as of yet.

| There was a guy that drove up out of no where one day in a pearl white 67 bus in nice shape. we talked for about 5 minutes, he reached in and grabbed a 67 splash pan, and handed it to me for my 66 bus. Somehow he had 2... that was interesting |

I dropped off my friend in her row housing development and a lady came running out of her house with a tow bar and gave it to me. She said they used to tow a bug behind them when they travelled but didn't have an RV anymore let alone a Bug so she gave it to me. And also got to share some fine old VW stories |

| I had a box of random motor parts show up at my door. I was always working and driving my VWs so someone must have had some stuff and figured I could use them. |

yes, all the time from complete cars to bumpers, fenders, engine's, trans, etc, etc. Once they know you work on VW's you are fair game for their dumping ground |

Yup, had a guy drop off a 74 Super beetle complete with title, and another tell me about a 73 Thing, that his neighbor wanted hauled off for free (also with a title). I've also had people stop by and offer parts (since I was on the wat to the scrap yard, to others wanting the top of their barn cleaned out of "junk" VW parts (like a nice 67 only deck lid, and 12 core engines). Most people in my area know I work on VWs, so they know where to go to get rid of their "old stuff". _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Haha where to start.... Mad knows that I am like a magnet with "I LIKE FREE STUFF" attached to me and most of it is from strangers.
Here is some really cool stuff I've gotten for free, including the '74 bus:
(Everything but the overriders)
(Everything in this pic including the seat clamps, both manuals, all the patches and VW emblem)
Got this '74 bus for free
I've got replacement panels, a steering wheel, a dash, doors for a '76, curtain rods and a Westy table also. _________________ Bay Pride!

A guy who lives in my complex said he worked for VW in Germany back in the day and gave me this:

When I got my first bug, the neighbor across the street came buy and gave me an assortment of tools that he used back in the day when he had VWs.
I've had tons of smalls given to me over the years, from toys to stickers to patches... But one of the coolest things was a large, vintage VW flag.
Still waiting for some old timer to stroll up and give me an Okrassa kit that he got back in the day. |

Guy in the Costco parking lot struck up a conversation with me regarding my '70 Westy. He gave me the Westy tent that had been in his garage for 20 years. _________________

Had a neighbour drop off a copy of Think Small- she had a friend visit her who saw our cars and then brought the book along on a subsequent visit and asked the neighbour to pass it along.
Local mechanic passed along a bus axel he had. Said the CV's and boots are new. It was in my wife's car with a note after she got an oil change _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

I had a couple of toys and a few manuals sitting on the seat of my old 68 single cab one day after I got home from work. Someone just put them in there while I was gone.
I have had many others stop by to give me stuff, from parts to signs to old magazines. No cars yet, though. Almost free, but not quite. _________________

No one ever really talks to me, most ppl try to leave stuff with my dad or speaks to my sister back home about how i'm "doing something with'em so he might need the spares" i have been offered whole cars but i didn't have a place for them at the time. all of them where very rotted bajas but would have been nice to have them. Hopefully the offers keep coming. _________________ The Whingnut

I've only been given an offer of help getting my bug running from a stranger (he used to have a bug). He saw me waiting by the car to meet a friend. My car was fine so I thanked him and never saw him again.
I missed my chance by a couple days to get free mystery parts from a guy I met at a Habitat for Humantity build. He had just cleaned out his garage and threw away some oddball parts for the Ghia he no longer owned. |

| Ive had about 5 different "fix your vw" books, and a few dealership carb tuning manuals. I had a homeless guy try to "give" me a performance upgrade at 7-11 without my permission, came out to see him playing with the adjustment screw on my 65 bugs carb. He was in his 60's and seemed to genuinely think he was helping me out, I gave him $5.00 and thanked him. Car didn't run that well so I fixed it when I got home. |
