Ok then...
I have sold my 1302 Weltmeister edition(I really do not know why...) and I have found a very inocent 1200,build on october `59,sooner or later I will buy a Birth Certificate from Wob.Those 59 and 60s are very interesting models, there are a lot of important one year or first year things.Ouh,it s ragtop too Rolling Eyes
Let's start with the pics!
Fortunately, the H and the 4 finger aprons are at their places, not in great shape but I think the rear one is ok to rebuilt somehow.

Ok,the cleaning and ripping off was kind of fun, finding all kind of parts hiden in the car.Besides hiden parts I have found loads of rust and evidence of a frontal crash,so Ill need another front clip and front frame head. Sad
In the next days Ill take some pics with the restored and new parts and body parts. Laughing

Neat, I would love for you to post a pic of you headlight plugs. I'm trying to figure out if I have the correct ones laying around. looks like your Beetle is pretty OG. Have you checked to see if you have the 1960 only Steering wheel and horn ring and all the bits that go with it? Also could you post a pic of the Heater Mufflers under the back seat for reference. Looks like you have the Pot metal dash trim which is cool. Start soaking that Choke Cable if your planning on replacing it. And keep us updated. Worst case, you could cut out the 4 finger metal on the front apron and weld it in a later replacement if you have to.

Yup!I think Ill do the same thing about the H apron too(Ive found some tutorials here). Are you talking about those sockets?I figute that they are original, cause I have found one at the last owner, and in the user manual seems to be the same, take a look.I have almost all original things with a little bit of patina, new pics tomorrow. Smile

Unfortunately yes from Romania. Here is the steering wheel, original part, first year with horn ring, the original one is broken, only when I have tried to fit the new horn ring I've spotted the difference between the rings.

Save that broken horn ring, 1960 Model year is a hard setup to come by and all the parts that go with it. There's a great writeup on the 1960 Steering wheel by duginabug, no other horn ring fits. You could just smooth out the ruff edges and roll with it until you find the correct one. Some people say just update it to a 61' and up, but thats no fun. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=369613
Also if you do change out the front clip make sure you grab your vin tag off the original one. Look forward to your progress.

All of the fun is to find the correct year parts...anyone can go the custom route.

Yup,the broken horn ring its in a safe place, the new ring fits ok,but not perfect. If Im right, only the 60 model have those 2 stripes under the VIN plate,so in Ro its very very hard to find a 59-60 front clip.Im agree with gt1953,so lets see what kind of parts are first year, last year and one year only.
First year:
-Vinyl sun visor(only driver side)
-Steering wheel with horn ring
Last year:
-Semaphores
-Screw hold electric contacts
-Speedo with clear indicator
-Split gearbox
-Front clip
One year only:
-Door handles with verticaly key soket
-Red oil dipstick
-Front fenders I think
-The gearbox front mount
I have missed something?
From my search I 99% think that the original colour was jade green L349 like duginabugs car http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/645403.jpg cause its fits with my interior too.

Your Right on that one, I just only recently scored all the bits on my 60' for the Steering Wheel. I'm on this weird mission to replace everything that I can with German parts. Just for the fun of it. Our Convertible has suffered enough from the previous PO's.

Do you have the rubber Boot that go's on the fuel tap? Also would you measure the length of the 2 Brass Tubes for me? For some reason they look shorter than mine, especially the main tank tube. It's really cool that you have a Colored Steering. And that Sheet Metal around your Vin Tag looks really good, What needs to be replaced? You could transfer that over too on the new clip.

Nope, unfortunately I do not have that rubber and I can not find it anywere...
here are the pipes dimensions(in cm):
-5.3 for the main one
-2.4 for the reserve.
yup,I could replace the vin zone sheet,to keep the 2 stripes under the plate, but i cant find any model of pre61 clip...so,Im still searching and gather money.

I'm interested in the rear license plate. I believe the "MS" designation is for the city of Munster, but what is the significance of the numeral "1" preceding the "MS"?
