Years ago my dad owned a Porsche/ VW shop (He's 83). I have been cleaning out his old parts and found a couple of 031 and 050 dist., along with a lot of Solex 40PII carbs and parts. Is there much demand for these dizzys and carbs, or are they just dust collectors?

I sell a few 031s a year. Remember they were 68-69 Europe only. The cast iron 022s are better sellers.

For core 031, you can get $100. I sell restored ones for $225.

Glenn,

Would the 031 have been a performance upgrade for the time? My dad and his friends were very active in racing. He built a special autocross car and would take his Porsche to Laguna Seca. Just wondering how or why he got them if they were Euro spec.

Some history.

Porsche used the VJ4BR18 from 1957-1963. In 64 Bosch changed the way they number their parts and changed the number to 0231 129 022 (022 for short). In 1968 They switched from cast iron to cast aluminum. The North American cars got the 061 which was mechanical and vacuum retard and the rest of the world got the 031. The vacuum retard was to lower emissions.

The 031 is a performance upgrade from the 031. I just sold one to a customer that had a 061 and here's what he said "O31 arrived today and is installed. I can't thank you enough! What a difference from the 061 vacuum retard. I very very happy.".

I have also had customers tell me they like the 022 over the 031. I can tell you that the cast iron is more stable than the cast aluminum and at high rpm the advance and dwell is more stable in the 022.

Depending on condition, those solex 40-p-11's are a nice find. I had a set back when they were a little harder to find parts for and I wish I hadn't sold them.

All of the the solexes are split shaft. It looks like I have one complete set ready to go. Just for kicks I threw them on my baja (manifolds had 2 stud locations), and they actually ran pretty darn good considering I didn'y play with the jets. The rest are not fully complete. al have the original patina. The extra parts and linkage pieces will fill a smal box.

I also found a 061 dist and was wondering what the advance curve looked like (vacuum disconected). I am into VWs and am looking at different dist to run
