Wow I first started this thread in May 2004. And that was after the idea had been tossed around for six months prior.
Here we are almost eight years later. In that time the club has been mentioned and even given its own space in all the VW related mags. Several members have had their cars shot and featured as well. Members continue to enter and place their rides in shows across the world.
Recent events include the 50th Anaversary Treffin, Pedro Sainz notchback feature at the San Diego Auto Mesuem and news time on local KUSI News. Bob has once again put together a much anticipated calender that will hang on walls around the globe.
The welth of information on Type 3 is ever expanding with Scotts Blog, Lees T34 site, theSamba and now Facebook T3 and T34 listings. As well as several other dedicated t3 sites.
There has been talk to have a T3 day in LA, so I hope it happens.
The Web page is back up-as it was locked due to a biz web site I had with it being closed. As always I hpe to get together with Bob and put more into it.
Lets hope for a good T3 year for 2012. And try to make the 2012 T3 Invasion-going strong every other year.
So do you want a medal, or a chest to pin it on? I started my 'FI Relief' thread a year earlier. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, by date it's the 'OG' sticky on this site. But you don't see me bragging about that, do you?

I always believed that posts here on the Samba effect all of us good and bad.
For sure any thread that shows a continued restoration bringing a car back to life inspires a multitude of people.
We also bring people together at events big and small. When you go to a show that usually nets 0-1 T3 year after year with a sudden bust of 6-10 because people got together over the net is a powerful thing.
People that sell us parts get questioned on unubtainium because we as a group will see a thread here, maybe during a restoration like yours and press sellers to produce new items.
The bad is in some of the shit we may give each other. Some newer people excited on a idea get flogged in threads all the time. Ive seen noobs that can take it and learn why people think their idea is bad and go onto flourish, other get pissed off disparaged and leave.
We also push the price of accessories through the roof. If we devote a couple of pages to how cool mud flaps are then we get $500 set of mud flaps for sale.
I could of gone on and on in my original post about how many other good things are happening in the T3 world as a whole. But seeing how this is the 1500 club thread I kept it local.
Did you inspire the new T34 builds? Ask them if theve seen it. There is a wealth of info in it for sure.

Here's a little food for thought for you Jason. I started restoring my 64 T-34 Ghia back in 2010, and get it almost done in 2011, now there seems to be at least 2 or 3 more T-34's starting to get restored. Is it just a coincidence? Or did it help draw them out?
In my case, it was just coincidence, but I appreciate the documentation of your resto, and I plan to do the same with mine. _________________ -Thom

Were you inspired by someone else's build to get yours going?
Yes, I agree on that, and that's why I try to stay civilised.
As for someone inspiring my build, it was mostly Russ. I only say that, because I really wanted to get it finished, so he could take it for a drive. However, I wanted to document as much as I could for myself and to help others who might tackle one of these cars, and for those on the forum who have never seen 1 of these cars blown apart like I did. But, my thread is also my "photo album" of sorts, as the entire car was shot with a digital camera, and I'm not ready to print out some 700+ pics of it, to make a "hard copy". I do know for a fact, that rebuilding a Notch is a LOT easier, even with some of the very early stuff. Mainly because a good portion of the parts ARE out there. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I'm sure it was just a coincidence, because right after I started, it seemed like 4 more T-34s came out of hiding. And a 1 of them was really nice too.
Thom, I just wish you'd put all of your pics into 1 thread though, as I'm sure your pics will get lost in that thread you've been putting them in. I mean it's already up to 104 pages, and your pics are start somewhere around 99. That kind of makes it a little harder to follow along. Plus, you can keep the questions directed (for the most part) toward your own car. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I pulled all my seats out of the 63, got to finish stripping the rear down so I can send the upholstery to Bob. Got the floor mats out, they are salvageable. I'm going to slowly prep to pull the body off so I can repair the pan and have it powder coated. Unfortunately i need to replace at least the rear halves, we'll see how bad it actually is once its blasted. _________________ -Bryan

Yeah Thom, are you going to have a thread dedicated to just your car? Its like Bob says-easier to follow-all your build and pics are in one place then kept there long after the car is done, been driven, won many awards, seen features in all the mags, parked in a garage for retirement, rediscovered five years later..................

Time for some more "bragging". Pedro has become such a sought after commodity that his accessory line is now World famous. Its not uncommon to see his latest swag in the UK, Europe, Asia, Oz and New Zealand. There are even rumors that a recent Arctic expedition used several special made racks on a stalactite gathering venture. With his fame and fortune abroad, its not surprising to see his products in main stream rock and roll videos. Yes you heard correct, Pedro is now a Rock Star
Seen here in the beginning of this Rammstein German Rock video-Pedros racks are proudly displayed on an early split window bus.

I don't have the connections to get a car in the mags. Last time I had a feature car was 1987.

My 71 Notch build thread is a good example of this. It's helped others by refering them to certain sections (page #s), and letting them see how something was done. It also helped me when I got stuck on something, and showed some solutions. And it'll forever be in the Samba archives, as I've since sold the car.
