Turning a '68 US spec square into an N model

So, I'm thinking about taking my squareback and making it an N model squareback. Here's a list of what I know has to change:

Body:
remove side trim/fill holes
remove hood trim/fill holes
remove passenger door mirror/fill hole
remove pop out windows
paint vent window frames
paint reflector housings
install flat taillight lenses
install sidemarkers (optional)
remove bumper guards
remove rear emblems/install vw1600 and variant emblems

Interior:
remove clock/install clock delete
remove passenger sunvisor

Anything else that I'm forgetting? Are there any '68 specific changes that I should be aware of?

I know they are on earlier cars. '64 through '67 have bug door pulls instead of the Z armrests. I probably wont stick to the N model interior.

Do you want it to be a 68 standard or an ealier version?

You can keep the pass mirror-squareback Ns that Ive seen have the mirror or a block off plug.

'68 standard. I've seen the door plugs, but don't have one. What about the passenger door lock?

Isn't it built into the door handle?

So you're actually trying to make an "A"? Just asking, because there are no "N"'s after 65. An "A" would be a standard stripped down model like the "N" was, complete with rubber floor mats in place of carpets. Also, an "N" would have a prop rod for the front trunk (in a Square), but after 64, the prop rod was discontinued (at both ends), so it must have just gotten cheaper to make them standard WITH springs. Rolling Eyes

I guess an A model then. And yes, the lock is built into the handle that's why I was asking about them.

Later types standards end up having more in common with regulars. Like chrome wing windows and rear reflectors. No pass arm rest, clock block, no side pad in the trunks.

We need to look over the manuals.

The only brochure I have is for '64.

The later stuff was more about motors than trim. I had a 71 standard fasty. It only had the clock block, no pass arm rest, no pass visor and some plugs in the dash for the cig lighter and what not. The rest was same as a reg T3.

There is a 67 many here on the samba but its not much help.

Yeah, after that, they became "A' or standard models. Those were mainly built for the "home" market, as they were entry level t-3s. However, countries like England got them too, due the the higher tax rate of the more equipped cars. You might want to contact Dave Hall thru the UK type3 and 4 club, as I'm sure he could give you more info on them.

did the A version have non-chrome window vent wings, the side markers in a different location, non chrome window trim like the N model did?

If you're sticking with Diamond Blue, I would leave the vent windows chrome but I would still paint the rear reflectors.
