As you can see from the photos above, I did both. (But I would never call either one boring.)

To give credit where credit is due, the stocker was built by my friend John Kellestine of St. Catherines, Ontario.

I had wanted a kick-butt version of the IMC gasser for awhile, so I built this one. I upgraded the wheels and tires to something a little more aggressive than what came with the kit, but otherwise built it pretty much box stock.

Maybe we should start a thread on VW model builds.

Ha! No kidding! Greg Carr! How great is that! Glad to see you're still out there kicking around, Greg! I've admired many of the great old pictures you've posted recently also! Keep up the great work, Greg!

Maybe we should start a thread on VW model builds.

That is a good idea, unless there is already one started.

It's good to see you posting too, Steve. I still have my "Common Gear" newsletters stashed away.

After a quick topic search, I couldn't find anything, so I'll go ahead and start one.

I just completed my Dune Buggies & Hot VW's Magazine Collection. From the first issue to the present (February 2012), and including the 8 specials throught the years, my count is 511 issues. I wonder if Hot Vw's know that their March 2011 was their 500th publication?

Congratulations on completing your collection of hot vw's.

I have a faver to ask. If its not to much trouble can you look up an article and give me the month and year it was printed?

The article was about converting a 4 cylinder 1600cc to a 2 cylinder 800cc. I believe the article was in the late 70's possibly 78.

Thanks dustin

Recently I was thumbing through some of my early issues looking for Sac Bug O Rama and So Cal Bug In info and I remember that article. It is in the Apr 78 issue on page 52. Not sure why this would need to be done, but it looks like if you had the means to do it, it would be cool when completed.

There was a similar article in Volkswagen Greats magazine in the late '70s. It was about a college team that entered a contest to build a vehicle that could go 50 mph and get 50 mpg. While other teams had big budgets and built fancy machines, this one team built a 2-cylinder Volkswagen on a shoestring and placed very well in the competition.
