1967/8 resto

Hi mate,
that is a fantastic looking engine!
I'm up in Scotland and am restoring my first Beetle.
it's a late 1967 model, I think it's classed as a '68?
On the first page that picture of your front axle, what is little thing over on the right of the axle?
I found one of these on my bug too and could not suss out what it was for...

well after 40 days and 40 nights rain a got the pan set up to work out the ride hight and try swing arms . allso cleaned the shed as it was out

1st start of the engine today and i went like a watch. im so happy. 1 small leak on the carb but appart from that is sounds good. take no notice of the temp exhaust. Very Happy

You probably shouldn't have ran it that long without the belt on it. Since your generator wasn't spinning, your cooling fan wasn't spinning.

ye i had a tempo gauge on it to make shore. still waiting for pulley

well iv now narrowerd the front beam by 4". put sleaves on the inside welded plates on the outside just to have more weld area. cut the leaf springs and driled new holes. god there hard. any way all worked out spot on. next job is to work out the stearing stops as they will need to be cut and moved. Smile

shit its getting cold out the garage at nights now. buuuuuttttttt. got the bump stops sorted out. moved the oil nipple, and cleaned up the box and refitted Cool

It looks to be a 1200 model. Here in the US, we only got the 1500 models, but in Europe, you guys also got the 1200 model. It was a more affordable model without all of the nice new features, like 12V electrical. Smile

Look at the VIN number on the body and the floorpan. If the third digit is a "7", it's a '67 model year. If it's an "8", it's a '68. That's how you know if it's a '67 or '68.

hey brah .... steering wheel is on the wrong side... other then that sweet build lol..

love the pant on the tins it all looks great. how did you go about making it look so good

what made me think of that is i left a tin of paint outside one night and it was frosty and the paint went really stiff. thats wy i thoght of the fridge Think

merry xmas all. i had a few bits and bobs.

1st i had an impossipuzzle. 5 cans of beer and two hours it was done Shocked

2nd i had a vw beetle make it yourself . only done half . was a little drunk by then
3rd i have the new sprayer. voted 1st class and best buy 2011 said classic car mag. that was nice Very Happy

4th i got some new inner wings and some door piller repairs

iv had a bit of time off the bug now as its been so cold out there but time to get back to it.
as a start and a mix up with the rong ball joints i have now got long travel ball joints to go in.

been out in the cold trying to do a bit more to the bug,
so i got my spindals and backing plates cleaned up. moved my nipple and pushed my new ball joints in and set up my front end. i still need new tie rod ball joints but put the old ones back on so i can move the pan down to my dad so i can get on with the shell. allso put the wheels on ready for the move . will be putting alloys on later in the year. well heres a few pic Wink
