Got to go to the shop for a couple of hours today so I cut out the old rusty one and welded in the new panel on the driver side sill today.

While grinding off the lead on the 1/4 panel found a big hole so filled that in too.

Made a cover for the glove box opening to comply with the steel firewall requirements. It bolts into the rubber stopper holes and can be taken out to put the glove box liner back in when not needed

note*** no Oval glove boxes were harmed in the fabrication of this piece.

My street seats arrived today. Still trying to arrange picking up a Kirkey for racing. These are a pretty comfy seat.... and I fit in them. Laughing

Also got the mounts for the tank painted and ran my first piece of fuel line from the pump to the tunnel

The cage went in on Saturday.I left the rear legs off for now so I can get
the body off one last time to do some rust repair and body work as well as send the chassis out.

Put the bases on the seats and put both of them in to see how they look

I got the steering shaft fabricated with the anti-kickback in it. It's nice to be able to put the steering wheel at the angle and distance that is most comfortable for the one driving it.

Welded in a couple of mounts for the tach and satelite reciever. I still have to get another base for my Garmin GPS to fab up a mount for it.

Also got the fuel lines put in in the front and ran the fuel tank vent line off the top of the tank that runs out the bottom of the pan.

Spent most of the day grinding and cutting rust on the heater channels and finishing boxing in the rear of the heater channels. Just have the passenger side sill plate to finish welding and were done with the fabrication on the body...........Yeah Got everything that is done so far seam sealled and sprayed box liner on all the bottom parts to seal it up

Hope to finish up everything tomorrow. And finish welding the cage up. Next up is seat mounts and then disasemble the pan to send it out.

Seat mounts are in. Welded to the center tunnel along the floors.

The rear cage legs are now in. Go to plates in the corners of the parcel tray and then will have extentions from the bottom plates to the rear tranny mount. All the glass is now out of the car and all the metal under the seals is in really good shape, no rust repair to do at all.

Haven't had much time to work on the car of late. But I did get the motor sent to the machine shop for balancing and the case just needs final cleaning and it's ready for assembly when the rotaing assembly gets back.

The new motor parts showed up for this years run at Bonneville in the buggy Cool

This car won't be making the trip this year. We have decided not to take the big truck as there isn't enough guys to make it worthwhile Crying or Very sad

. Kind of a disappointment, but I will be finishing it this spring and autocross it while I work on the buggy for it's final run at an attempt to do 130 in the mile.

Still slow going on the project, but I had an hour and a half to kill last night so I pulled all the side trim and got the drivers side holes welded up. Welded up the passenger rear quarter today before work. I've got the drivers door stripped out and will do the passengers one tomorrow. Sunday it's going to my friend's shop, AirCooled Classics, to get the body work done and hopefully be in primer next week. If I can find the paint I want, it could also be painted by the time Todd get's back from Australia to race on the salt down there.

I also picked up a race seat at last nights sports car club meeting. A 17" UltraShield road race seat. Just gotta stretch the sides out a bit Laughing

Who needs belts when you have a seat that fits this good?????? Once i sweat out 10-20 pounds sitting under the hot Utah sun in a 3 layer firesuit, it'll be a little loose. That's the story I'm going with......

It's pretty comfortable once I'm in it, it's just the ingress and egress that takes a bit of ummmm, work. I'm putting it in the buggy right on the floor to get me lower in the car. The way I made the seat brackets I can change the driver seat in this car in about 5 minutes.

like at a modified race I went to with my grandsons? The car hit the wall hard, the driver ended up with a broken leg so they just used the boom from the wrecker to get him out. It happened right in front of the grandstand so it was actually humorous to watch as we knew the driver wasn't seriously hurt.

I have my James Bond ejector seat all wired up. Going to test fire it this weekend. With a head as pointy as mine I'll just punch a hole through the roof with that.........

I got the car to Aircooled Classics at 11am today. Pulled the rear fenders and doors off. By 1pm is was in bare metal with NO surprises found Dancing

When I left at 3pm, Johnnie was skinning the roof with the first shot of mud. At this rate, he is thinking first primer by Wednesday Shocked

Here's John hard at work. He's got the body roughed out to 80 grit and started the doors and decklid today.

The body was actually pretty straight. Some old lead repairs on the left side. Looks like something fell on the car. The roof was jumped on or had something fall on it. It was pretty beat.

My poor tortured decklid. This was off a 54 parts car I bought years ago. The licence light was punched down even with the lid. There was a huge crease in it from side to side and the hinges were welded with gas back in the 60's and broken again. The last plates on this car were 1964, it sat next to a barn for 35 years before I got it. It was a good candidate to cut up, there was no making a silk purse out of this one.

No paint today, but John's done a hell of a job. He's also got some other jobs he's working on as well as running his own business. This is just a part time gig for him THANKS JOHN The first coat of primer is on and blocked out. He was going to try and get another coat on tonight or tomorrow morning and let it sit for a day and then block it again. My paint is ordered and will be here next Thursday. John wants to the car to sit and shrink back a few days before the final sanding. That's fine with me, I'm building motors now and need to get one done for my buggy before I get back on the car, strip the pan and get it sent out.
