Unique.... and a pain in the A$$ when you want to make it all original, with all the special 67 parts.

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I bopught this bug there were others to choose from but this one just struck me.
I like a bug to be as close to stock as possible but I am smart enough to know and admit that I will not be restoring this one to complete original perfect condition.
I am thankful that it has a lot of the original stuff but I am too poor to do an all original restore.

Does it have the 'vert pan stiffeners installed?
Engine with the riveted plate on it means it was a factory rebuild at one time. B code lists it as a 1500 single port, which judging by the picture it still is (although it may have had 1600 cylinders put on at some time). |
When I pulled my 69 apart, there were no "stiffeners" on the pan. There were extra panels in the front footwells just forward of the doors, rounded braces in the bottom door corners, extra bracing just aft of the doors, and the support rails that weld onto the bottom of the heater channels. The reason I started the work on the 69 was that some stupid PO had removed those support rails. The only difference I found with the pans is the jack points are removed, since they are incorporated in the support rails.

FYI
Sedan and convertible frames/pans are nearly identical.
The only differences are the lack of the jack pocket on convertibles and the chassis numbers. (Post 1964 build Beetles) Serial numbers begin with 15 for a vert vs 11 for a sedan.
ALL the extra convertible supports are built into the body.

Your going to need a rear seat since the one back there is for a sedan and won't work. A rear seat from any 65-73 vert will work. Don't think you have to get a rear seat from a '67 vert only. Good luck, I've had two '67 verts.

Yeah, it is too long. I was actually about to ask someone what seat would fit. Im not sure about that front passenger seat either, it seems too wide. The driver seat is completely gone.
Something I just noticed today was that the front fenders dont match. The passenger side fender has the horn grill a bit further from the hood than the driver side. Funny, once you notice it it sticks out like a sore thumb!

I just learned that the top was purchased without a back window. The owner is required to cut and install their own back window and frame into the top. I was told they had paid "almost 500" for the top about a year and a half ago.
Im not sure that cutting a hole in the top would be something I would feel comfortable doing. But I do not have that original back window or frame anyway.
Something else for the future 'to do' list
